I'm using Access 2003 on WinXP-SP2. I open mydb.mdb from Windows Explorer,
or from a shortcut that points to the mdb.
The problem is every time I open mydb.mdb, a duplicate is created -
mydb1.mdb. And if I try opening mydb1, then mydb11.mdb is created. Anyone
have any idea why this is happening? How I can stop this?

The duplicate is probably a "ldb" file, not an "mdb" file.
If so, it is not a duplicate, but a small file that Access uses to handle
the locking of a database that is opened in shared mode.

Unfortunately, no. It's an mdb. The ldb is also there (until I close the
mdb).
Even if I create a brand new mdb (e.g. db1.mdb) and then close and reopen
it - a db11.mdb appears! and if I open the db11.mdb, a db111.mdb appears,
and so on.
I think it has something to do with DDE. I was trying to modify the File
Types - and uncheck the "Use DDE" option that can cause the "Cannot find
<file path>" error when opening an mdb from Windows Explorer. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;815283
I've installed SP1 for Office 2003 - you would think the Office team would
have fixed that bug by now...
I did a complete uninstall/reinstall of Office 2003 - the problem is fixed.
