error when trying to add record to Access 2000 db

Hi All,

I'm having a problem trying to add a record to a simple Access 2000 db
(db is very similar to an address book but with more info than the
usual address, phone, etc.).

The database is one table, 36 fields. The record_id field is an
autonumber field (long int) and primary key. The rest of the fields
comprise of 30 text fields, 3 memo fields, 1 date field and 1 currency
field. Text fields vary in number of characters allowed. All fields,
with the exception of record_id, are set like this: Required = No;
Indexed = No OR Indexed = Yes (Duplicates OK).

The form is all text fields, no controls, combo or list boxes. There
are 3 forms that point to the one table as its source. Only one form
can be open at a time and none of the forms have subforms. New
records can only be added to the "main form."

When I add a new record in the "main form," I get an error message
when I try to move to another record or click New Record to add
another record:

"The changes you requested to the table were not successful because
you would create duplicate values in the index, primary key or
relationships. Change the data in the fields that contain duplicate
data, remove the index or redefine the index to permit duplicate
entries and try again."

I've checked the indexes (all are set to "no" or "yes (duplicates
ok)"), the primary key cannot be a duplicate because it is autonumber
with increment and since I only have one table, I have no
relationships.

The database stopped accepting new records at record id# 1131.
Correct me if I'm wrong, autonumber should be able to go to higher
numbers? I've tested the autonumber function and it's working. I
reset the autonumber to start at 1200 and it still wouldn't accept new
records. I can edit and view existing records and run reports on
existing records. I just can't add or save new records. There's
plenty of harddrive space and memory.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Frances

Hi. I am trying to add new records to an Access 2000 database using VB6. But I keep getting this 3426 "action cancelled by object" error. I've updated DAO to 3.6 and checked MSDN. Their code doesn't do anything. Here's my code. How do I connect to Access 2000 properly and add records without getting that 3426 error. Thanks in advance. Dim dbs As Database Dim rs As DAO.Recordset Set dbs = DBEngine(0).OpenDatabase(dFileName) Set rs =...

We have a MS SQL Server 2000 application for our shipping system. We have created a front end application using MS Access for our order analyst. The front end application allows the analyst to review and update orders before they are released to the warehouse. We are in the test phase of this project and have run into a couple problems that we just can not figure out. During the testing phase there is only one person working in the...

I am about to completely lose what is left of my poor mynd! The historical dissertation gets rather verbose, so I hope you can wade through it all. I really need some help on this one or I'm looking at rewriting all my hard work in something else (wasting probably a month or more). (If you want to run and hide now, the error message is "The decimal field's precision is too small to accept the numeric you attempted to add." I haven't yet...

I keep getting the following message when trying to delete a single record from the table. "Search key was not found in any record" The record I'm trying to delete has errors in it and when the cursor is moved over the record the "invalid Argument" error message pops up. Any ideas on how to delete this record. Access 2000 and Win 98SE system TIA

FYI: This message is for the benefit of MS Access Community. I found that this prblem has been encounterd by many but there is hardly any place where a complete solution is posted. So I thought I should give back to the community by posting our findings. Thanks you all for all your help till now by posting problems and their solutions. ~Abhijit

Hi, I originally posted this as a reply to a rather old thread in dotnet.framework.general and didn't get any response. I thought it might be more relevant here; anyone got any ideas? During registration, users are supposed to enter the following details: First Name, Last Name, EMail, UserName, Password, Confirm Password, Address, City, State, Country, Zip & Phone Number. I am using MS-Access 2000 database table for this app. Note that the datatype of all the fields mentioned above are Text. Apart from the above columns, there's another column in the DB table named 'RegDateTime' whose datatype is Date/Time which is...

Hi, I'm trying to create a button on a form that: 1. Takes the ComputerID from the form linked to Table 1, 2. Checks Table 2 for a matching ComputerID, and 3. Opens the query qryEditData, and 4. If no match can be found, adds a new record in Table 2 and enters the ComputerID automatcially. The goal is to create a new record in Table 2 when a new record is created in table 1 and have the ComputerID fields match with a 1-to-1...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
