Last time I did this was in Access 2.0 and that just couldn't place a
real exclusive lock on a linked table, I had to go about it by opening
the backend database in DAO and opening from there. I don't know if
later versions are better than this.

set rst=db.OpenReco rdset("linked table name",dbOpenDyn amic,dbDenyRead )

or if you have the backend table open in the db variable

set rst=db.OpenReco rdset("table name",dbOpenTab le,dbDenyRead)

How to run action query against linked table? I have an Access 2003 mdb with an Excel 2003 Workbook as a linked table. When I attempt to run an action query against the linked table I get this error: Deleting data in a linked table is not supported by this ISAM. From what I understand, indexed sequential access method (ISAM) drivers are used to update "non-Microsoft" file formats. So why doesn't Access

I have encountered a problem that I am hoping someone can shed some light on. I have a multi-user A97 app. All users have a personal front-end MDE accessing a shared back-end. There is no specific MDW file for the app as security rules are housed within the app itself. On a couple of occasions, different users have launched the app only

I'm trying to retrieve the connection string for a linked table in a backend that is password protected. I've modified the code shown below to temporarily check that the backend has been successfully opened by showing, via a messagebox, the last record in the table. The connection string should be provided in the last line shown, but I always get strTemp = "". I'm certain that the backend has been opened because of the messagebox. The...

I am trying to open a file in exclusive mode for writing. Is the code below correct? FileStream oStream = File.Open(FileName, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Write, FileShare.None); The purpose is two-fold: 1. I want no one to be able to open a file while I am operating on it. 2. If the file is open by someone else, I want the code above to throw an exception.

I have "Spilt" my database and the "lookup" and "seek" methods that previously worked, no longer do. I have learnd from reviewing the posts that the "lookup" and "Seek" methods cannot be used on linked tables and that you cannot set an "index" for a linked table. What I don't know how to do, is revise my code to complete the same tasks as it it did before I split the database. I'm sure the problem lies is this block of code: 'Define...

I'm having problem with using DAO recordset to append record into a table and subsequent code to update other tables in a transaction. The MDB is Access 2000 with the latest service pack of JET 4. The system is client/server, multiusers based. The MDBs are using record locking. Here is part of the code: Dim wkSpace As Workspace, db As Database Dim rstTrans As DAO.Recordset Set wkSpace = DBEngine.Workspaces(0)

Hi, I need to link a mdb file and make sure it opens in a non-exclusive mode. I looked for a similar post but none was answered. I know there is a specific param to add to the command line to get the mdb to open in exclusive mode (/excl). I'm looking for the exact opposite.

I'm unable to to open a linked table T that is stored in an Access 2.0 MDB database file (shared/back-end,) using both Access 2.0 and Access 2003, in the same time. Here is the scenario: 1- Start Access 2.0 and open the linked table T. 2- Start Access 2003 then try to open the same linked table T. 3- You may get the error "Could not use <.mdb file name>; file already in use."

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
