OLE Image Problem in A2002

I posted this with a different subject line (in two posts - I added
additional info in the second) in this newsgroup a few days ago, but
haven't had a single response. Hopefully, that was because I posted
at the weekend, and the experts were all having a well-earned rest and
missed it first time around. I'm hoping someone here can help - I've
had no joy in other avenues. Now to the problem:

Using Access 2002:
I have downloaded a tutorial database, which has a form containing a
bound object frame to display a picture. The picture field in the
underlying table has an OLE Object datatype, and when a picture is
inserted (either directly into the table, or via the form), the table
entry contains the term "Package". The pictures which are available
to be inserted into the database (as steps in the tutorial) are .bmp
files. My problem is that the form displays both the picture (in a
small "thumbnail" format) and its filename (only the filename - the
path is not included) in the bound object frame. I've never seen this
behaviour before (I've got several databases which display pictures,
via several different methods), and I can't find any obvious property
which is causing this behaviour. BTW, the supplied .bmp files contain
only a picture - the text is not part of the image!

Additional information:

The database was originally in A97 format, which I converted to A2000
format (that's what I had set in my Options|Advance d tab - I'd done
that some time ago since I needed A2000 format for stuff I was doing
at both work and home), in A2002 SP3 on a Windows XP Home system
(without SP2 - trying to install that was a disaster!).

Running the original A97 database (on two different machines which
both have A97 installed, one with Win2000 and another with WinME) has
the image displaying correctly in the bound object frame.

Converting the original database to A2000 format (in A2000, not
A2002), on the system with Win2000 and A2000, also displayed the image
correctly.

Converting the original database to A2002 format on the WinXP/A2002
system gives the same problem I originally asked about. Well, almost
identical - the thumbnail and filename were displayed slightly
differently, left-justified in the bound object frame, and the text
font was different. Note: the bound object frame has no properties to
set these formatting options.

My conclusion is that the problem arises in either Access 2002 (aka
Access XP) or WinXP Home, rather than in the actual format of the
database.

Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone else
experienced this? Is this a known problem?

The problem is related to OLE providers. I saw this once before I stopped
using any type of OLE picture placement with bound object frames. As I
recall, I fixed the problem by repairing the MS Image Editor in Office,
which had gotten flakey on one PC. After determining that I did no want
my app to be hostage to quirks caused by image-editing products trying to
steal file associations from each other, I searched this newsgroup and
decided to use unbound image controls instead. Of course, this also
solved the whole database bloat issue associated with storing images in
the database.

Hello: I'm building a report to display statistics on the entire database. I have successfully built a report that groups the entire db on one field and gives me a count of db records for the categories in that field and a total record count for the db. Now, I need to add another "total database" grouping to get another set of record counts. I DO NOT want to nest this group, It MUST consider ALL database records.

I have an app written in A97. I also have sporatic users upgrading to A2002 as they get XP on the machines. So they need to open my A97 app. To do so, of course, I open the MDB exclusively to allow it to "convert" which actually seems like just a syntax check since it stays in A97 format. Here is the question: If I make a change to a form or report, what is best way to get the A2002 environment to re-convert ... forcing it to do so?

I currently have Office 97 installed on my PC. I need to be able to develop aplications in both A97 and A2002 and am thus poised to install Office XP. I have been told by many people that both versions of Office can happily co-exist on my PC. Question: Are there are "gotchas" that I should watch out for? Chuck

I develop my application on my desktop which has Access 2002 (default file format of A2K). My client uses A2K so I have installed A2K on my laptop. Recently when developing in A2002 my front end reached about 22 MB in size. Even after multiple compacts the size only goes down to about 18 MB. I'm on the road so I started working on the code in my front end using A2K. I only did about 10 minutes of work, when I got the dreaded "We're...

Hello Group. I work for a company who is about to embark on a long awaited Office upgrade from Office 97 to Office XP. Office XP comes with Access 2002. I am an accomplished Access developer so I have read up on the complexities of upgrade in the corporate environment. Also the need to carry out a full MDB audit to get rid of the redundancy etc etc

All: I posted on this yesterday, but for whatever reason, Google isn't dealing nicely with it... Anyway, I need to install A2000 on a computer that already has A2002 so I can create A2000 mde files. I have the A2000 install disk. Our IT department controls the installation of A2002. After installing A2000 (into a different directory than A2002)

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
