hi there,
a while back i got into a bit of ASP programming and needed database
access. since msAccess was installed on the system i was using at the time i
used that and have used that since. but then i heard something about sql and
that it's better to change to that as early as you can because it's hard
converting access databases and all the code that goes along with it. i
would like to know what advantages the sql holds over access.

I have a query on one large table. I only add one condition, i.e. a
date (the SQL reads like 'where date > parameterdate'.
This query is rather quick if 'parameterdate' is either explicitly
written into the query or if it is a 'normal' access parameter value
that is entered during the query.
If I however create a separate parameter table that contains nothing
but the date I want to use in the query and then refer to this table
(the query...

Hi,
I have a query that returns a sum for all values found that match the
criteria.
I am wanting to place this value in a textbox on its own so I can
refer to it elsewhere.
I have used the dlookup function in the control source of the textbox
to do this, however I only seem to get an '#Error' returned.

Hi there.
I am having an intrigueing problem.
I have a query which left joins another query to itself twice. The
original query is derived from a linked table in SQLServer 2000.
When I run it on my pc It runs fine. However for other users in the
office, it behaves as an inner join. ie it only returns the records fo
which the join fields equal each other. This happens on every other pc

Some more, rather specific Access performance questions. IN a split
front-end & back-end Access/Jet ONLY LAN situation, and with all query
criteria fields and join fields indexed:
1. Is is good form to have a single query with base table with criteria
joined to a related table - all in one query? Or should I do a
two-step, first query does selection of main table and then join with
other table?
2. I have a table with multiple...

Hello,
I wrote a database applicaiton using Access XP (2002) and everything
has been working good for the client until they purchased a couple of
new computers with Access 2003.
The meetings form has an unbound combo box listing all the meetings in
the database allowing the user to navigate between meeting records.
The meetings form also has a list box that displays a list of members
associated with a meeting.

Hi,
I have a access 2007 database with a cross tab query.
Based on the selection critieria the cross tab may contain a different
number columns in the result. For example if the query is 'select * from
crosstab where project =1' would retun 6 columns, but if I change the query
to project =2 then the result would be 20 columns.
In my VB2008.net application I create the sql select statement. The problem

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
