Code Signing questions

I distribute an Access 2000 mde

Can a mde application be digitially signed? The mde is distributed
separately from the runtime and is included in an installation package
created by the clickteam installer.

Are there links to a good overview for new signers?

Thawte is about 1/2 the cost of Verisign. Is Versign worth the extra cost?

I think code signing is new with Access 2003. It's certainly much more
prevalent there.

A certificate is a certificate. Thawte is just as good as Verisign.
The latter has the name (not unimportant if you pretend to be a
Certificate Authority), but their products are virtually
indistinguishab le. Personally I think US$400 for 2 years is absurd. If
you like, you can produce your own certificates. An advanced topic,
beyond this newsgroup.

You must, I understand, be a "corporate entity" to obtain a certificate from
either Verisign or Thawte. There is provision for a Type 2 Certificate for
individuals, but you'll go through the tortures of the damned to get any
certifying authority to issue one.

And, just for the record, Verisign bought Thawte, so they are part of the
same organization.

Hello, I'm new to .NET and have this thing I didn't understand from docs: When signing my assembly with sn.exe, do I protect the assembly content in any way? If someone alters the code inside, will the .NET framework still load this assembly? If yes, how to do to protect the contents as well? Is there some kind of checksum I can add, or any protection?

I have a couple of questions around code signing with MS technology: 1. Is there a way to transfer the generated strong name signing private key directly to a smartcard (or generate it on the smart card), without the unsecure intermediate storage to the filesystem using sn -k and sn -i? 2. What is the format of the key files produced by sn -k and sn -p? 3. Is there a way to generate a PKCS#10 format certificate request from the sn -p...

I'm writing a .NET 2.0 app I want to deploy it in the net. Apparently (due to an "unknow publisher warning" while downloading in the browser) I have to give a strong name to my installer & my components. My (.NET 2.0 beta2) project is a mix of C# & MC++. - To authenticafe my MSI I need a .spc & a .pvk file - To strongly named my C# assemblies with VS.NET 2005 I need to use a .pfx file or a .snk file - To strongly named my C++ assembly...

Two questions. We would like to have users complete ASP.NET web forms for submission. Once these are completed I would like to generate an XML document from the form. The XML document should include the data and the form so that the orginal document could be recreated even if the submitting form is changed in the future. I would also like to sign the XML document so that we can provide proof that the xml document has not been...

I am using the "VeriSign Class 3 Code Signing" certificate for signing my Access program in Office 2003. Up to now, when program was installed on client machine, a form was appearing and user was selecting option "Always trust files from this publisher.....". With these steps Certificate was installed and security warnings of Office 2003 were not appearing again. On another machine, these steps didn't succed. When viewing the...

I have several database applications developed in Access 2000. Some of my users have upgraded to Access 2003, and they get a warning every time they open the application: "This file may not be safe if it contains code that was intended to harm your computer." I understand that there are two ways to avoid this message. One is to set the security level on Access to low. The other is to sign the database with a digital certificate, and ask...

I have encountered an error while attempting to sign an assembly. I have become quite frustrated since I seem to be going in circles and making no progress. Hopefully someone will have the magic answer. I am new to this so I will try to describe everything as well as I can. There are probably a number of things that I am doing wrong so I will try to desribe the errors that I am receiving along with things that I have tried and...

I am trying to understand the difference between signing ClickOnce manifests and signing shared assemblies. My company is building .Net 2005 WinForm applications for internal company use only. Currently, the ClickOnce security settings on the applications is set for "Full Trust". We are using shared assemblies across development groups, but none of these assemblies are signed with strong names since signing assemblies is only required when...

Anybody use Strong Name Signing? I think this is used by default for Resource files, which is one reason perhaps I can't get my resource files to work (somehow the public key is messed up, perhaps since I've installed so many versions of Visual Studio) RL http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/h4fa028b.aspx Deployment in Visual Studio

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
