Is there a way to query Microsoft's index server service from an
Access front-end? When you run the index service on a workstation (or
a server), you can full-text index a directory/series of directories
and you can query that via the quick-and-dirty query capability under
My Computer/Manage/Services and Applications/Indexing Service/Query...
Can you connect to the same "engine" from Access?
Can you do the same from a client machine running an Access database
to the Server Machine (where hopefully I'll be running the indexing
service)
THanks in advance,

This MVP knows next to nothing about Indexing service.

My client has over 3000 word documents on a network share. The documents
need to be searched for text strings. A typical search my be;
Search all 3,000 word docs for the string "Microsoft annual report"
I am guessing that access would pull each doc across the network, one by one
I would have thought this would be a performance killer. So what type of
solution would fit the bill, SQL? I am an access developer, but even if I

We have a customer that is getting an "Access is denied" (to a specific dll in the application's bin directory) error on XP when trying to run an ASP.NET application. All the posts and KB articles I have read (such as http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329065) say that this happens when indexing service is running. But in this case we have verified that it is not running. I have also looked at file permissions and do...

By default mdb etc files are not searched by Indexing Service.
The default can be changed in Windows XP Pro using Group Policy.
I can find no suggested way to make the change in the Windows XO Home.
I decided to try adding this Registry Key:
"ExcludeExtensions"=""
"SyncAtLogon"=dword:00000001
"SyncAtLogoff"=dword:00000001

Here's the rest of the tutorial I started earlier:
Aside from text within a document, Indexing Service let you search on
meta information stored in the files. For example, MusicArtist and
MusicAlbum let you find MP3 and other music files based on the singer
and album name; DocAuthor let you find Office documents created by a
certain user; DocAppName let you find files of a particular program,
and so on.
Indexing Service uses plug-ins...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
