I have inherited a complex database that has many dozens of queries that derive data from a people
table.
I now need to be able to run these queries (from within a significant number of forms) not on the
full dataset, but on a subset of the data in the people table.
I want to avoid having to put criteria in all of the individual queries or forms, or having to
change the data source for all the queries.
Is there anyway I can restrict...

Hi all -
I'm wondering if anyone has (or knows of) a tool that will allow me to
search through VB code, tables, queries, reports, forms, and other
objects, for references to all other types of objects.
That's not really that clear, so here's an example:
If I have a table named
"table_i_would_like_to_delete_but_don't_know_if_any_object_is_using_it",

I'm a fairly new user of access & I've never had any training, so I'm
wondering if I'm doing the right thing here, or if it matter at all.
I'm building a database for room booking purposes and I'm trying to do
all record changing using queries. From what I can glean from this
(excellent!) group this is the right way to go about it. At present
what I'm doing is building & trouble-shooting the queries with
query-builder then using code to...

I'm a little nervous about slamming my database with a dozen Update queries
in a loop that all modify RecordSources of open forms. Will the use of
DoEvents and/or a Sleep function ameliorate any risk involved in doing this?
Should I include a Requery in the loop after executing each query?
For example:
For each varQry in Array("qryDeleteOldTransactions", _
"qryDeleteClient Acct", etc., etc.)
db.Execute varQry

Hi everybody!
Recently I was struggling with client/server issues in MS Access/PostgreSQL
combination.
Although Access is intuitive and easy to use desktop database solution, many
problems appear when someone is trying to use it as front-end for real
server database systems such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
One of these problems is regarding pass-through queries and parameters.
I wanted to have all the code on client, while executing it on...

I understand it's easy to list all saved queries of a given Access
database via Msysobjects system table. However, I have not seen any
posting over this NG or other similar ones that also include SQL
statement(content) of these queries, though I've noticed some VB code
for that. Is that because it's simply impossible to get a query
content (not query resultset) from a SQL stmt?
Thanks in advance.

HI--a simple question about access security--am having brain lock--if
I make queries read only to a chosen user group (as defined by access
security) will they stil be able to open forms based on sql statements
in the Record source property of the form?
I have most of my forms based on SQL statements in the record source
property of the form (drawing from more than one table)--as I
understand these they are not stored queries?
So I...

Try this script to see what queries are taking over a second.
To get some real output, you need a long-running query. Here's one
(estimated to take over an hour):
PRINT GETDATE()
select count_big(*)
from sys.objects s1, sys.objects s2, sys.objects s3,
sys.objects s4, sys.objects s5
PRINT GETDATE()

I have an appointment scheduling application with a number of queries
that filter through a table with many thousand appointments and comes
up with one days schedule. I need to start out by finding the
appointments I need to view in the calendar for one staff person. I
wanted to know the best order to put my queries in. I need to have
queries dependent on each other for my display (since the data is
fairly normalized). I have three...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
