The backward conversion process should work okay. I'm guessing that the
corruption is already present, and is just being exposed by the conversion.
To avoid the corruption:
1. Make sure all your databases have Name AutoCorrect disabled. Explanation:
http://allenbrowne.com/bug-03.html
2. Decompile a copy of your database before you convert it back to A97.
That's a matter of entering something like this at the command prompt, while
Access is not running. It's all one line, and include the quotes:
"c:\Program Files\Microsoft office\office\m saccess.exe" /decompile
"c:\MyPath\MyDa tabase.mdb"
Then compact: Tools | Database Utilities | Compact.
3. Make sure you have SP3 for your Office 2000 machines, and JET 4 SP8
installed on both your Office 2000 and 2003 machines. The service packs can
be downloaded from:
http://support.microsoft.com
and the JET s.p. is downloaded and applied separately.

The other important factor is that you must use the DAO 3.5x library in A97,
not 3.6. More info on references:

I have a system that we have had running for many years. We keep our
file in 2000 format, but develop in 2003 environment... ussually we
use our test computer with 2000 loaded to convert back to 97 and then
open our 97 test computer and fix references etc. recently once we
convert to 97 we can open the file but many forms are corrupt. Does
any one have any advice on this?
