Acc 97 - Set place/numbering in continuous form by code

Hi there,

Need some help again ...

I have a continuous form which shows the attendees of a competition as
per their placing in the competition. So, the first record is the
winner, the second record is the 2nd place, etc.

The continuous form's recordsource is an updatable query. The
query/form has got a field 'place' into which the reached place is
entered.

I now want to click on a button in the form header and set the place
for all attendees from the winner to the last place in the continuous
form.

For this I thought the easiest way is to get the line number for each
row source and then 'copy' this value from the line number field into
the field 'place'. I get the numbering with the 'GetLineNumber'
function which works fine, but ... how can I now get the line number
into the field 'place' ... ?

Or is this the wrong approach ... ?

Any help, if possible a bit of code, would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Sabine

Hurray :-) - found the solution myself with the help of Stephen
Leban's 'Serialize' function.

For all who are interested:

I have the competitors of all competitions with their results listed
in a table, each competitor has got his/her primary key.

I have now created two queries, the first one which gets all
competitors of a specific competition sorted by first place in the
first record, second place in the second record, etc.. The second
query then uses the first query plus the column
Serialize("qryn ame","key",[key]) to set the records' sequence numbers.

The last step is then an Update query with an Inner Join on the
original table with the competitors, updating the field 'place' with
the sequence number, using the primary key of the competitor.

Thanks, Stephen!

Is there any EASY way to highlight a full row in a continuous form so that as i navigate up & down the table/continuous form using the arrow keys, the entire line (all fields) get highlighted ? This will give the effect of a bar moving up & down. BTW, all fields are locked so this form is View-Only & not editable. Thx & Best Rgds, Prakash.

Hi ! I have a field "sub_tran_no" in my form in continuous view. When the user presses a button "Re-Number", I'd like to: 1) Save the current record pointer position 2) Save the current field which has focus 3) go to the top of the recordset & start re-numbering the "sub_tran_no" field with the values 1,2,3, until eof.

I'm having trouble continuously page numbering a large report in MS Access. The report is made up of three separate Access reports which I join together at the end. In the past I have opened the reports and viewed them to see how long they are then go in and manually type the page number and total page number. I am aware of the and lines of code but this resets with each new report.

As it stands right now I have a form with a sub form within it. This sub form is a continuous form that I want to have numbered i.e. Element 1, Element 2 ... and so on. I can implement this with Two labels one for "Element " part and one for the number. I've tried several different ways all of which proved little. Is there anyway that I can do this?

I have a continuous form showing Product Code and Product Name. Product Code is five digits and is sequential. I have a textbox in the form header. What is the code to scroll the continuous form so that as I type in the the first two or three numbers of the product code in the textbox, the first product code record appears at the top of the form. I would like the continuous form to act like a combox with auto expand. Thanks!

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
