Unbound Data Entry Problems

Hello my programming Super Heroes.

I think this one is a no brainer, me being the one with no brain.

I have a form that is used for data entry. The goal is to have an
unbound form that only enters the record when you hit the "Save
Record" button.

I've been using a form that enters right into the table, and I'm
running into too many problems with Multiple Primary Keys and
calculated Text Boxes. I think this will solve all of my worrys.

Thanks for any help.

To use an unbound form and write the record via the Save button, generate an
INSERT statement (SQL) from the controls (being careful to handle Nulls
correct), and Execute it.

In reality, that ends up being more work than using a bound form. Use the
BeforeUpdate event of the *form* to validate the record, and ensure the
results are correct before saving. Certainly, this will create greater
problems that the ones you are trying to solve.

You must not save calculated results back into the table, unless it would be
meaningful to have results there that do NOT match the result of the
calculation. For more information on that, see:
Calculated Fields

I need to create different recordsets based on queries that use data from unbound fields in a form. I've discovered that I can't do this, and instead need to save the data in question (usually a text string) to a table. I'm thinking the best way to do this is to use a Make Table query -- that way the table stays small -- one row -- and...

I've included the needed tables in the DataSource. Those tables that are bound to controls I can workwith. It seems like it should be fairly...

I'm looking for input into my decision to switch to ADO and unbound forms. I get tired of having to block all of the ways a user can unknowingly save a record, like using the PageUp, PageDown keys and the scroll wheel on the mouse. Also, I think that as the database grows in size that it will eventually be moved to SQL Server 2005 Express. ...

I'm somewhat new to Access, and have no VB experience at all (except for modifying existing code where obvious). I built a data entry form that works fine. Typically, a client will call in and the user has to find his record to add or modify existing data. Originally, I built the form based on a query with an input criteria for the last...

I've noticed that if you use code for the before update command for unbound controls, it doesn't really work. I tried the following: Me!ExportedYN.undo Cancel = True DoCmd.CancelEvent Exit Sub
