How do I create a data input form in Access that is external to the
Access database to which it's connected (if that's possible, which I
believe it is)? For example, if someone clicks on an Access file icon
on a computer desktop, it will open up a data entry form (that was
created in Access). That way, the people who enter the data won't have
direct access to the database at any point.
I've seen that this can be done, but I don't know...

Hello,
We are in the process of examining our current main application. We have to
do some major changes and, in the process, are questionning/validating the
use of MS Access as front-end. The application is relatively big: around 200
tables, 200 forms and sub-forms, 150 queries and 150 repports, 5GB of data
(SQL Server 2000), 40 users.
I'm wondering what are the disadvantages of using Access as front-end? Other
that it's not...

Does anyone know a way you can use conditional formatting to create a banded
style view as is commonly seen on the internet. (In othe words the first
record appears on a gray background, the 2nd on white, the third on gray etc
etc.) I could write an expression based on the odd/even status of the
primary key but this wont work when sorting and filtering is applied.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hello all! This is my first posting here, although I've been lurking here for months and getting lots of help & tips from the past posts here.
I'm in the process of updating our company's Access 2003 database to 2007, and while we're finding some of the new perks to be neat, I'm having a problem getting some of them to behave as we've envisioned. For starters, we're using the new Split Form feature. When the split form datasheet shows up...

I'm a very low-level developer with limited VB knowledge but nonetheless was able to put together a very user-friendly and extremely helpful Access 97 database for my company some 10 years back. We use the database for inventory, job costing, employee records, timecard recording, nearly everything except the hard core accounting. The database is shared by 20 users over a network. Every 3 or 4 years I archive and purge the data to keep the...

Hello Everyone,
I stumbled onto something interesting and was wondering if anyone
else has experienced it and how they fixed it. I've posted to several
forums to no avail.
I've got a datasheet subform developed in an Access 2003 database.
Users can click on a row and delete the record on the datasheet.
However, when we open the database using Access 2007, Access 2007 sets
autofiltering on each column, so I can't select the row--only

Hello,
I am using Datasheet view when displaying my data.
The data are displayed in a "x,y" matrix wherein data can be directly edited
in the Datasheet.
Anything inputted in a certain cell is directly updated to DB.
I want to open the Form, input data but WILL NOT COMMIT then close the Form.
If I open the same Form again, the data shouldn't be changed because it wasn't committed.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
