MSDE 2000

I've finally got MSDE 2000 sp3a to install on my PC by turning on the
"Server" service. Duh!

Unfortunately, I can't get it to connect to the server when I try to
upsize a tables in an mdb database file. The SQL Server Manager icon is
running and I am able to start the SQL server. I get a dialog box message
about unknown procedure or something like that. I am running a stand alone
PC with a DSL connection. I am trying to run the server and client on the
same box, not in a networked environment and I am attempting to run it
with the "Trusted Connection" box checked. I've also tried to use the
account login (using "sysadmin" and my WinXP login account and various
passwords including the SA password.) I used "setup.exe SAPWD=XXXXXXX" to
install MSDE. I only have my local computer available in the server box,
it shows the hostname I've assigned to this PC. If I try to change the
hostname, I get a different error dialog box which indicates that that was
a bogus server name.

I am wondering what other are other services that need to be running to
get the client (MS Access) to connect to the MSDE server and how I can get
MSDE up and running.

I have installed MSDE 2000 sp3 on a Standalone PC running Win 98. It worked
ok and I was able to upsize MDBs to ADPs. Of course on Win 98 I am not using
Trusted Connection.

What does the snapshot file say about the error message ?
Since you have set a password for sa you could try using sa instead of
Trusted Connection for the upsizing process.

I'm looking for a simple way of telling (inside a stored procedure) if I'm currently using MSDE or a full SQL server. Ideally, there is some pre-defined environment variable that won't cause me too much overhead. The reason I'm doing this is because my system "rolls over" databases when it reaches the 2Gb limit with MSDE, but obviously I...

Hi all, I just got SQL Server 2000, but I already have MSDE installed. Is there any reason I would want to keep MSDE around on my computer if I install SQL Server 2000? I use MS Visual Studio 2002 on Windows XP SP2, in case it makes any difference. I intend to deinstall MSDE before installing SQL Server 2000, but I get the impression...

I posted this in one of the VB forums but I'm starting to think it might be more appropriate to have it here, since it really seems to be a SQL server (MSDE/Express 2005) problem: Hey, all, I have a problem with queries against a SQL server instance that I just found and is causing me fits. I hope someone can point me in the right...

Hello, all, I started out thinking my problems were elsewhere but as I have worked through this I have isolated my problem, currently, as a difference between MSDE and SQL Express 2005 (I'll just call it Express for simplicity). Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
