We have an Access 2002 database and it has started giving us fits.
It works over a network and usually it has several people using it. This
has not been a problem in the past. However, now, when some people try
to log on, a message pops up telling them that this is not an Access
database or that it needs to be repaired. Sometimes, they get a message
telling them that the database is opened exclusivley by another user. In
each of these cases, I go to the server, kick everybody off and then
compact it. Everything goes well for a day or two and then we start
getting messages.
This is a large database - about 70 megabtes - but it is compacted once a
week and I can't believe it needs to be compacted everyday or even twice
a day.
One of our guesses is that printing large numbers of reports from it does
something goofy but we don't know what.
So, what do you think can be going on?
Do I have permissions set wrong? Is there some sort of network security
set wrong? Could there be aproble with the server?
Any and all suggestions appreciated.

I can't tell you the specific cause of the problem. However, a good general
practice
with multiple users is to use a front end/back end configuration, with each
user
having a front end "database" on their own pc. I have "database" in quotes
because
these have no actual data tables, only linked tables which tap into the
back end database tables. The front ends each have a complete set of
queries, forms, reports, and modules as needed for that user.

Ah, as Bruce states it needs splitting.
This is a large database - about 70 megabtes - but it is compacted once a week and I can't believe it needs to be compacted everyday or even twice a day.
Actually my clients frequently don't compact for weeks on ends.
Do I have permissions set wrong? Is there some sort of network security set wrong?
No and no.
Could there be aproble with the server?
Definitely. But as Bruce mentions, if not already split then you really want to
split the MDB into a FE/BE.
See the Access Corruption FAQ at my website for much more information on corruption
causes and solutions including a link to article explaining splitting in more detail.

I have read a lot on this subject on newsgroups and other access
related websites on data corruption, but since we are still not able
to isolate the problem – I am posting this detailed explanation of my
problem:
We have a 23 user environment with Windows advanced server and windows
2000 clients with access 2002 running on all clients in a FE/BE
format. The problem is our database gets corrupted almost 3-6 times on
a busy day (lot of...

Good morning,
I have a client with an Access 2002 database that is giving an Error 3197
upon open (The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you
and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time.).
The database is not used in a multiuser environment. I tried compacting
through the built in utility in Access to no avail. I submitted the
database to www.accessdatabaserepair.com (a 3rd party db...

Well, it has finally happened. We have a five year old app that is
widely distributed. I cannot get an update done because none of the
code modules will open. Access complains that the module is corrupt
or that it cannot be read from a network drive. They are not ON a
network drive.
Anyone have a clue how to repair this?
All help much appreciated.

Recently, and for reasons I don't know, the project I was working on started
to compile either very slowly, or it was locking up.
So, I repaired VS C++.NET 2005 Express via 're-installing' it without first
removing it. The repair worked, and the project now compiles in a timely
manner.
My question is this. After the offer to download the Express versions for
free has expired (Nov 2006), will some means to repair the ones we have...

I am running this command from a .bat file.
"C:\pathToAccess\MSACCESS.EXE" "C:\pathToDatabase\db.mdb" /REPAIR
Database repairs as expected, then shows the messge:
"Successfully repaired the ..." and you have to click "Ok" to get rid
of the message so that the database can close.
How does one suppress this message, so that the database shuts down

Hi All,
Using WinXP pro/Access 2000.
I have a database that's been used for about 5 months. Transferred lots of
data from a dos based program, then the users have been using it for that 5
months. About 180000 records in one of the main files (maybe 25000 new since
the dos conversion). Been having some speed issues crop up along the way
(much faster to do same reports when I first transferred the data than now,
with the new 25000...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
