Express repair

Recently, and for reasons I don't know, the project I was working on started
to compile either very slowly, or it was locking up.

So, I repaired VS C++.NET 2005 Express via 're-installing' it without first
removing it. The repair worked, and the project now compiles in a timely
manner.

My question is this. After the offer to download the Express versions for
free has expired (Nov 2006), will some means to repair the ones we have
installed on our systems still be provided? Would it be a good idea for us
to request the CD's even though it installed off internet just fine, just
for the purposes of repair after Nov 2006?

Hello!

I'm glad that you were able to fix the problem. I am checking into the
availability of repair after November 2006 and will get back to you when I
find out.

Of course do note that we do have downloadable ISO images for the setup
of VC Express. If you download that one now, you should be good to go to
be able to do a repair (on the same machine).

I see we think a lot alike... : )

One question though. You said 'on the same machine'. The install process and
downloading the CD ISO's are independent operations, and I did them a week
apart. Am I still good, or do I have to install from the ISO image to repair
from the ISO image?

Since I am not a lawyer, I was trying to avoid stepping into the issue
of downloading the ISO image now and installing it on additional
machines after the promotion period has ended.

I have downloaded VB Express 2005 and there is no new program listed under Start, Programs. When I look in the path I see: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition Beta - English\install.exe" which only allows repair and remove so I know it is installed but I cannot see how to open it up. What did I miss?

Hi All, Using WinXP pro/Access 2000. I have a database that's been used for about 5 months. Transferred lots of data from a dos based program, then the users have been using it for that 5 months. About 180000 records in one of the main files (maybe 25000 new since the dos conversion). Been having some speed issues crop up along the way (much faster to do same reports when I first transferred the data than now, with the new 25000...

New discovery. If I take a perfectly good database, and "compact/repair" on it with Access 2000 (seems to be at multiple sites--I've tried it with my system here, at another office on an entirely different network), it damages the file somehow. The user's machine that did the compact/repair can see the file fine. But any networked user can't get in. I can double click on a good database file from any user (over the network) and it...

Is there a posh Win32 binary? Or better, has anyone successfully compiled modules for Python 2.4 with the newest "free" tools? Do I need to move to 2.5? I could not get it to compile with my (apparently incomplete) MS C++ 7.1 install (which did, however, work for weave/blitz, before). The 7.1 compiler with the 1.1SDK is no longer available, so I can't repair the install. I went through the motions of compiling yesterday with the new MS...

Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
