Converting Access db linking to Btrieve files thru ODBC

Greetings!

I know this kind of question gets asked here almost daily, but as a
newbie I have sort of a twist: I'm needing to take some reports I've
written in Access that link to Btrieve files thru an ODBC connection,
and create a run time app using Office Developer's Edition so that my
customers can run the reports using the native Btrieve data. *whew*

All of my customers have the same Btrieve file structures and
identical indices. They all own a common app that uses the Btrieve
files without the ODBC connection -- I have to assume the ODBC
connection is not present. Also, they potentially store the Btrieve
files in different locations on their respective networks.

Is Office Developer's Edition what I need? Any tips on writing an app
that:
1) locates the Btrieve files
2) checks to see if an ODBC connection to the files is present, then
creates one if needed
3) links my Access reports to the newly created ODBC connection
4) runs my report in run time
5) does all of this with a user-friendly (dummy-proof) installer

Thanks in advance!

Hi. I need the count of the number of rows within a text file. I checked the File object but could not find a method there to do what I need. Is there an efficient way to count the numbers of rows? Currently all I can think of is opening the file for reading and counting every row. This could be a long tedious task as some of the text files have millions of rows in them.

Hello all, Currently we are implementing an Access database which has to send some (not much) data over a WAN. We are using an Access front end and an Access back end. Basicly the front end runs local, but at the end of the session the front end needs to write the data to the back end on the WAN. The responsible IT manager asked me to use a ODBC linkage between the database, since this sends smalles packages of data (which minimizes the...

Background: - I'm running MSDE 2000 (not client tools, stored procedure capability, etc). This may change, but not in the first part of development. - My Access file is an Access 2002 project (.adp project client connecting directly to MSDE SQL database - no .mdb involved or local file tables beyond the .dbfs to be imported). - Using ODBC to connect to .dbf data sources without a problem (ODBC is

I currently receive text files that need to be manipulated into a suitable format for uploading into a Pervasive/Btrieve datafile. The text file I receive needs a number of steps to clean it up and so I set up an Access database to perform all the steps and would like to link the output directly to the database table rather than exporting to text and manually importing into the pervasive database table. I have linked the pervasive data table...

10 years ago, the below was written (see very end, after my signature RL). What, if anything, has changed? I have Access 2003 and soon Access 2007 on a Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista Ultimate machine, with SQL Server Express running on it, and I want somebody, with a password (which I will provide) to be able to log onto a A03 or A07 dB from the internet. Now that I type this I realize that unless I put the database onto a...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
