Odd Database Size

Hi,

I have experience of strange behavior of my Access 97 database.
I went to the existing database, which has a size of 30mb, and change
three lines of VBA codes behind reports. 15 reports have been
modified. And after compacting database I got 33.5mb database. What
did I change that caused database jump on 3.5 megabytes of size? What
can I do to clean up that absolutely odd behavior of Access 97?

Thanks in advance,
Alex

Hi Alex, use the DECOMPILE command for decreasing the db size. Check
this on Advisor.com site.

Thanks it's works for decreasing a size of the database
(tremendously), but now I can't compile modules. It's keep telling me
that "A module is not a valid type". What do I do to fix it?

Sahafay,

I believe you may be able to create a blank database and import all
your objects from the troubled database. See if that clears up your
problem.

Reposted 2nd time -- For some reason unknown to me, answers that I am posting from work
are not showing up in the list when I view the same thread at home much later on.

I posted this answer approx. 16 hours ago the first time....
It shows up in the list of messages when I view them from work, but not from home. Very
strange to me! Anyway, the 2nd link points to the original Cary Prague article on the
topic of large database bloat in Access 97 databases.

Try the waybackmachine (http://www.archive.org/web/web.php).

There are several versions of the article that are cached (e.g.,

I need the code to update the database when Save is clicked and a text field has changed. This should be very easy since I used Microsoft's wizards for the OleDBAdapter and OleDBConnection, and DataSet; and all I'm doing is showing one record in text fields, allowing the user to modify the text fields, and then updating the database again when the user clicks the Save button. The fields already show the correct data record since I have...

In Version 8.2 if we run the query db2 "call get_dbsize_info(?,?,?,0)" it gives us an approximate size of the database. But it we try calculating the file system sizes of the database home directory, containers file system it gives some other size...

You may be wondering why you would want to put your files “into” the database, rather than just onto the file-system. Well, most of the time, you wouldn’t. In situations where your PHP application needs to store entire files, the preferred method is to save the file onto the server’s file-system, and store the physical location of the file in your database. This is generally considered to be the easiest and fastest way to store files. ...
