Hi,
I'm having problems with changing the Read Only properties.
Running Winxp and i cannot get the "read only" to clear off a folder.
The folder is one that i want to change the data in and it won't
let me.
I have two accounts on the main system and cannot change the
properties from either administrator account.
I have tried renaming the folder and putting it back into the program
and it still won't work. All files in the folder are set to archive.
Any help would be appreciated,
Rich 7 15011
There is no such thing as a "read only directory" under Windows. The bit is
used to tell Windows whether to store special info about the folder.

The folder is named data1 and holds the cases entered into
the database.
We are no longer able to save any data entered and the
folder is "read only".
Don't the atributes of the folder need to be anything
other than read only?

Of course there is such a thing as a "read only" directory. Just
right-click on a folder in WE, click properties, and check the box for
"Read Only." But that is not this guy's problem.
I seem to remember having a similar problem that was caused by the
share. I'm not running XP on the computer I am using now, so I can't
tell you exactly how to do this, but there is a "feature" called "simple
share" that you need to turn off, even though Windows says it is
"recommende d." Try that, see if it works...

Not in the GUI there is not.
Just right-click on a folder in WE, click properties, and check the box for "Read Only."
As I mentioned, that is not really accurate -- the check box there is not
for the directory, its kind of a UI bug that it appears to be.
But that is not this guy's problem.
Agreed (especially since it does not really work anyway!).

In WinXP, right-click the folder, click Properties, and there is a check
box for "Read Only." Doesn't that qualify as part of the GUI?

And the checkbox does not actually make the FOLDER read only, as I have been
saying.
Notice how if you set it, close the dialog, and open it again, that the
checkbox is not fully clicked? Thats because its not really marking it
readonly.
