How do I make one of my installed ODBC drivers the DEFAULT driver?

I'm running XP. Is it required that a given ODBC driver be
selected or set somehow as a default driver? Look at this...

Here's the error: Error: ODBC call failed... [MicroSoft] [ODBC DLL]
Datasource not found and no default ODBC driver specified.

I think I can work my way around the Datasource, but the
default driver thing (#0) - dunno?

Could it be that my c:\windows\odbc .ini needs a setting modified
in order that one of the installed ODBC drivers be selected as a
default driver? My problem is not with Access 97. That works. My
problem is connecting with Access 2.0. Here's my INI file...

Hello, Is there a simple way to check whether a database driver is available on a remote server? I only have ftp access so I can only run ASP scripts. An ASP application on a host has died again.

OK, I had a problem that I've now fixed but I can't really understand what was causing it in the first place. I have an intranet site that uses basic authentication to allow users to view and update information from an Oracle DB (ver 8.1.6 -- ancient, I know). Anyway, the site worked fine as long as the machine accessing the ASP page was running Win 2k but when an XP machine tried to view the page, the client got an error: Microsoft...

Hello, I would like to access a UDB database on a Sun Solaris 5.8. The client is a XP station. When I list the default odbc drivers, I found "Microsoft ODBC Driver for DB2". But I think it can not be used to access a UDB DB on Unix machine. So where can I find a ODBC driver ? Thank you

In an Access97 application I fetch data from an Oracle database via a linked table (via Odbc/sqlnet). The Oracle database now upgrades from 7.3 to 8.0. The Oracle odbc driver I use (, supplied with 7.3) always worked fine on all Nt4 workstations. Now with the 8.0 db an odbc error occurs when the db is contacted: {ODBC Oracle Driver]ORA-01034: ORACLE not available. (#1034) SQLSetConnectAttr of the device driver had failed. On a...

Shocks. Today I came to learn that Suns jdbc-odbc bridge driver isn't meant for serious purposes; it's experimental. I already knew it isn't thread safe, but didn't think of this as problematic for the relatively simple system I'm using it. However, I suspect there are other issues. Currently I'm stuck with a query which takes less than one second if I run it somewhere in my program's main thread, while it takes easily 40 seconds when I...

Hi I'm running Windows 2000 and Office 2003. I want to copy tables from an unknown database format into Access 2.0 and I could do it quite easily if it weren't for the fact that recent ODBC-drivers aren't capable of writing into an Access 2.0 database (only reading). I do have the old Access 2.0 disks including odbc-driver, but it doesn't install on my machine (probably because the newer ones are installed...). And yes, I know that...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
