Access to Access ODBC connection via Internet?

jj
I have one access database on the desktop and another access database on a
remote web server.

Is there any way to setup an ODBC link between the two? I've tried adding
IP addresses and even domain names to the network path and it never finds
the connection. Is there another way to connect or some other trick to
this?

I'd like the desktop access application to be able to link to and view
tables in the web access database.

Thanks in advance!

Nevermind I see you can't even connect via ODBC from Access to Access even
on the same machine or network.

:(

Well, you can connect to a access database across the net, but you have to
be able to "see" the file in a folder. So, if you use a VPN, and setup a
file share, then in theory you could then browse via network neighbourhood
to the shared folder on the server, and thus actually use the file. So, when
using a JET and a file share, you must be able to "see" the file in a
folder. Using A VPN will allow this.

However, you can't really in a reliably way use a vpn.

For some tips and notes on a using ms-access across the internet, you can
read the following:

We migrated our intranet site from IIS4 NT4 (\\GHCNT8) to a Windows 2003 server with IIS6 (\\NT58) using the IIS Migration Tools. I have a few ASP pages that access Foxpro data on a different server. I downloaded the Visual Foxpro ODBC Driver from MSDN. I exported (from the registry) the ODBC entries from the old server and imported them onto the newserver. I setup the Internet user guest account with rights where the Foxpro data is...

Hi to all. I am pretty new to using Access and am having a problem I hope someone can help me with. I want to access a MS-Access database from a web page. I have managed to get it "sort" of working using MS-Access's 'data access page' function as it were. This creates a web page that is linked to a database table. The problem that I have is that if data in the dbase is changed, it does not immediately reflect

Hello everyone, This is my first attempt at getting help in this manner. Please forgive me if this is an inappropriate request. I suddenly find myself in urgent need of instruction on how to communicate with a MySQL database table on a web server, from inside of my company's Access-VBA application. I know VBA pretty well but have never before needed to do this HTTP/XML/MySQL type functions.

I've got an access97 reporting mdb that pulls data (77,000 rows) from a sql server table into a local table to run reports if the local table is part of the reporting MDB, the insert statement (16 fields) takes less than 30secs, but because of db-bloat, I moved the local table to a 2nd MDB and per postings, this 2nd MDB is copied into a folder and linked as a 'temp' MDB every time I run my reporting mdb

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
