What I need to do is find out what characters in a string are not
supported by the UTF-8 encoding. The problem arises when someone logs
in and uses my php script to create a weblog post. They are presented
with a form that has a textarea. If they type in words and then hit
submit, then all is fine. But if they write their entry in WordPerfect
or Microsoft Word or some such, and copy and paste it, then they might
be bringing strange...

I was using win32clipboard.GetClipboardData() to retrieve the Windows
clipboard using code similar to the message below:
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/comp.lang.python/msg/3722ba3afb209314?hl=en
Some how I notice the data returned includes \0 and some characters that
shouldn't be there after the null character. It is easy enough to truncate
them. But why does it get there in the first place? Is the data length
somehow calculated...

Hi ! can any of you help ?
Since datasheets and forms can happily display calculated fields over 255 characters long,
I was surprised to discover that the same when read via a DAO recordset beyond 255
characters is replaced with garbage.
I'd be interested in how many of you also experience this problem. To see if you have, try
one of the follow examples.

I have an asp.net application that mixes English and Japanese. I can
put Japanese and English characters directly on an .aspx page and it
works without any problem at all. However, when I try to put Japanese
characters inside a Web User Control which is loaded on the .aspx page,
it comes back as nothing but garbage. I can enter the characters on to
the page in Visual Studio without any problems, but when I run the app
it shows up as...

I'm trying to display Japanese characters on an asp.net web forms
application. I am about ready to shave my head too. The whole thing
is just silly.
Ok, inside Visual Studio I can enter Japanese into my code left and
right and it works without any problems. When I dubug the application
any Japanese characters on the page turn into garbage. If I have
characters directly on the page, garbage. If I have characters inside
a text label,...

Hi all,
How could one write an strstr function to work with unicode characters?
Are there existing implementations/solutions/api for doing so?
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks ..

Had a thought that's grown on me. No idea if it's original or not- too
inexperienced in programming- but I guess there's no harm floating it
out there.
Python wins big on readability, and there's no doubt that context-
dependent text formatting in IDEs (keywords, strings, comments etc) is
a massive help too, therefore benefitting development and maintenance.
This idea is in a similar vein, especially for when scripts grow
large.

Once upon a time, there were no garbage characters on this page:
http://www.teamlalala.com/blog/category/css/
Now there are. For instance:
The 2nd paragraph from page 114 of “The Zen Of CSS Design”
For me, there are garbage characters before "The" and after "Design".

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupr who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
