Problem with closing and moving windows in Vista

2 New Member
Hi. Has anyone ever seen a problem with Windows Vista where you can't close a window with the X, nor can you move a small window by dragging?

Any answers?

Hello summerchase,

Welcome to bytes.com!!!

Please remember to provide a meaningful Title for any threads started (Please Use Appropriate Titles for New Threads!). This helps to ensure that other members, and also the general public, will have a better chance of finding answers to any similar questions.

About your question:
Does the window (that cannot be closed) has a X button. Many programs simply do not have X button to close. If it has, then the application is either not responding or it is refusing to close due to some bug/intended internal coding of program. You can try running task manager and then right click the process and click "End task" (or something like that).
In any case, I can only think of a solution if you post more information about the type of program that you are trying to close, your basic system configuration etc.

Thanks......

Thanx for the response Ambrnewlearner.
The problem with closing with the x, and not being able to drag windows happens with any window I have open on any program. I am running Windows Vista. It seems to be a problem in te OS since it is affecting all open windows. The systems info is:

There, I have no idea, why that won't work (had a similar problem with Linux recently, but the solution must be completely different, as the architecture of those OSes in that sense is), but I've renamed your thread, so that it might attract more of the right attention.

If you have visual studios installed you can use the program spy++ (it may only work in VS2008 for vista) and see if your window is receiving the close command. There are other programs that work like spy++ like uuSpy or WinID, but I haven't used any of these before. Have you recently updated anything in vista or have made a hardware change? Try to boot into safe mode and see if you can't close the window in safe mode. While these might not solve the problem it may help identify the cause.

Sometime ago on the comp.lang.c, I saw a teacher's post asking why C compilers produce so many error messages as soon as a closing bracket is missing. The response was simply because the compiler can't tell where a bracket is missing.... a few weeks have past, I requested a feature for the delphi ide/editor "automatic identation of code in begin/end statements etc" and today when I woke up I suddenly released a very simple solution for this...

Hello - This is my first posting to this group, so please bear with me. Also note, that while I'm intelligent, databases are not in my field of knowledge. I'm working with a small limousine company. Hey folks, I'm having a bit of an issue with how Windows Vista (or my ASUS notebook) handles closing my notebook lid. If I have an external monitor (my TV through S-Video) connected to my laptop, but not used, and I close my notebook lid, it switches over to the TV automatically -- changing the desktop resolution from 1440x990 (my notebook resolution) to 1024x768 (the TV resolution). When I open my laptop lid, the desktop is...

Hi, I'm experiencing a strange problem with .mdb files. We have two buildings connected by optical fiber (a single LAN). Everything works perfect with any file, any size, any application software. The hardware has been tested several times. Viruses, trojans and so on: clean for sure. The problem is that .mdb files (_only .mdb files_) often don't open, are very slow, or even get crashed and corrupted. The weird is that even copying them...

With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
