I'm running a resource-intensive stored procedure, which reads a file
with about 50,000 lines with a BULK INSERT into a temp table, then
goes through it and inserts a record for each line into another table.
While this procedure is running, SQL server stops accepting any other
requests coming from the website.
Question:
Is there a way to make SQL server "listen", or emulate an "interrupt"
to other requests while in the middle of a long...

Hi,
we're having a problem with SQL 2000 and Opta 2000 JDBC driver
where there is large update running and at the same time,
read is blocked for a while.
We're looking for a way to catch this blocking process
and if it last more than 10 minutes, then email or send out a message.
I know sp_lock returns all current locks
but how do you know which one is blocking other processes?
Thanks for your help in advance.

We are having a really big problem with a zombie process/transaction
that is blocking other processes. When looking at Lock/ProcessID
under Current Activity I see a bunch of processes that are blocked by
process 94 and process 94 is blocked by process -2. I assume -2 is a
zombie that has an open transaction. I cannot find this process to
kill and it seems that this transaction is surviving database
restarts. I know which table is...

I have a web service that needs to create a batch file and call it (since
there are no APIs for the functionality I am looking for). I am using the
Process and ProcessStartInfo objects. When I try to call the batch file, it
just returns with a return code of 1. When I call cmd.exe, and pass the
batch file as a parameter it hangs. After much frustration and aggrevation,
I found that CMD IS in fact running, but it is running under the context...

Hi,
I have a client/server application, using one thread/client approach.
I see very high context switch/sec. What are the ways to reduce it? Each
thread sleep longer in its endless loop if not reducing thread?
On the same machine, I also run a mysql server. I can see same amount thread
in mysqld, seems mysql is also using one thread/client. But its
context/swith is much lower. How can I get same performance?

I have a long process I run that needs to be complete before the user can continue. I can change the cursor to an hourglass, but I want to update the Status Strip on the bottom during the process. I set the statusstrip label to "Downloading...", but it will not show up on the form. I need to display this message before it starts the process. I can put a thread.sleep for 1 second after I do the initial process, but that seems sloppy to me. ...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
