Using Oracle 8i enterprise on win 2000 (sp3)
Installed the standard configuration & whenever I make a connection it
takes about 10 secs. It's running on a P1900 with 1gb Ram so no reason
there for slowness.
Once I'm connected the queries work pretty much instantanously but to
connect using SQLPLUS, Toad, ODBC, OLEDB all take about 10 secs. I
connect using OLEDB from Visual Basic development environment & after

I would like to know how others are developing
multilingual apps for US Spanish-speaking public. If an
app is globalized and es-MX is used for the culture, won't
the currency, dates, etc.. show up as in Mexico where an
app written for Spanish-speaking US would still want date
and currency to appear as $ and mm/dd/yy, but use the
culture to move all text to Spanish? Before I roll my own
solution for this, I'm curious how others are...

I am looking for a legal copy of Microsoft Office 97 Developer Edition in
Spanish. I have been developing with Access 97 Developer Edition in U.S.
English for 5 years but am now translating a software program to Spanish. I
need the Spanish Access 97 Office Developer Edition so that runtime errors,
message boxes, and formatting messages will be in Spanish rather than
English.

I wrote a service which depends on the Print Spooler service. Everything
works fine except when I run the program on a version of Windows XP other
than English (say Spanish), the service won't start. The dependency is based
on the name of the service, such that Print Spooler is called Cola de
Impresora (if I recall correctly) and that's the very reason for which my
service won't start.
My question is: is there a way to specify a service...

C will read a text file and store the Spanish characters (á, é, í, ó, ú, ñ, and ¿) as simple ASCII characters. No problem. C#, though, acts as if it's blind. The text string "bahía" read from a file comes out as "baha" and if I'm testing for spelling errors (I'm a Spanish teacher) it's no help. From what I can find on the Internet, the .NET system appears to render accented characters into more complex structures, but I can't find any examples...

Initial load of my ASP.NET app takes 50 seconds to load. Then it become
fairly fast. Followings are my app/hardware configs:
Server/IIS:

IIS 6 running on Hosted VPS Windows 2003 Enterprise, with allocated 512MB
RAM. Lots of memory still available when my app runs. CPU usage is low too.
