.bat file languages

1 New Member
Hello,

I would like to create a set of .bat files which I could use at work to perform various Windows tasks, primariy copying files, creating folders, etc.

From what I've seen there are multiple languages which could be used for such tasks.

Which one is straightforward in the sense that others could read it and understand what is going on? (Yes, I would generously document the procedure.)

Is there a book available for this type of development, with plenty of examples to learn from?

Thanks,
Jim

Python is a good language to both learn and for others to read. It uses a strict syntax system which makes it very easy on the eye. Also its very powerful, it goes way beyond batch scripting. If you can't install any software on your work computer then maybe you should try VBS, its not as nearly as good as Python but its better than batch files and doesn't require any additional software to run.

The official Python tutorial is here.
You can find the interpreter here as well.

Hi All. I'm looking for any help or sample code that can show me how to make a file import wizard in ASP.NET (VB preferred) like the one that MS Access uses. I'm working on a web site where the user has the ability to upload a file (.txt or .csv). The data in the file may be comma delaminated, tab delaminated, fixed width etc (we don't know). What I'd like to create is something like MS Access uses to import an Excel file into the...

I wanted to know how you would associate a file extenstion with a c# program. For instance, I wanted to allow a user to double click a .org file, and then have it open in my org program (which is an mdi app). Also, if the org program is already open, i wanted the clicked file to open as another mdi window (each file is it's own mdi window). Anyone have any links to tutorials or quick explanations? I'm also using vs.net 2003 in case anyone...

Hi! We have some special type of xml file with the extension xrd. When editing those files in Visual Studio.NET, a plain text editor is used. When using Visual Studio.NET, some file types (*.Xml, app.config) are recognized as xml files and you can edit them using the xml editor (with tag-highlighting and so on). Is there a way to register our own file type in order to be able to edit it

I got a solution that contains about 30 projects, three of which cannot be open. When I open the project, I always receive the error message "Unable to get the project file from the Web Server" My machine is running Windows 2003. My colleagues are using the same hardware and software as I do, but I am the only one running into this problem. I searched the Internet and see that quite a lot of people having the same problem in the...

Hello, What I'm trying to do is monitor a log file for a certain line of text to be written to it. Once that text is written, I want to parse from that instance of the watched text until it reaches another line of specified text. I know I can use the FileSystemWatcher class to see when the log file is changed, I just can't figure out how to retrieve what text was appended to the log file since the previous change. This log file is...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
