I'm sorry, I didn't express verly clearly. 'tail' is a command in unix used to trace file content, by default it will print last few lines of the file. It will keep display as the lines added. So it's more like a file monitor, if you use 'tail -f filename'.

Thank you!

I had a usefull BASH script for editing a config file for a server but the server went down for hardware upgrades and I installed the server on a Windows system as a temporary solution. In that script it relied on the tail command to monitor a log and I couldn't find any tool native to windows that could do it so I got cygwin. With this you can use lots of *nix commands. If this isn't practical you should investigate Python - I think I've seen a script written that can emulate the tail command.

Good luck.

Decorators have been getting lots of air-time at the moment, but only really the syntax. After a short discussion on irc the other night I decided to download python2.4 from experimental and write out some truely worthy decorator hacks. I implemented multimethods as a warm-up, and then implemented tail call elimination. Presented here is a brief synopsis of both, and then the implementations....

hi I have a file which is very large eg over 200Mb , and i am going to use python to code a "tail" command to get the last few lines of the file. What is a good algorithm for this type of task in python for very big files? Initially, i thought of reading everything into an array from the file and just get the last few elements (lines) but since it's a very big file, don't think is efficient. thanks

I looked around for an ElementTree-specific mailing list, but found none -- my apologies if this is too broad a forum for this question. I've been using the lxml variant of the ElementTree API, which I understand works in much the same way (with some significant additions). In particular, it shares the use of a .tail attribute. I ran headlong into this aspect of the API while doing some DOM manipulations, and it's got me pretty...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
