How to uncompress files en mass

bartonc

I accidentally did a disc cleanup with compress old files option.
Some how I figured that the would uncompress the next time I accessed them.
Now I'd like to uncompress all files in a folder at once. Is there a trick to this?

TIA,
Barton

yes, navigate to the root folder where all the files are compressed, usually you will see it apart from the other folders because it will be in blue instead of black and do the following..

Right Click on the Folder and go to properties > Advanced there uncheck Compress contents to save disk space hit OK and Apply and check Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files and hit OK

you are all done =)

Thanks, N. I'm sure that I right clicked and looked, but I'll look again.
<by root, I'm guessing that you mean all the way back to D:/>

By root meaning the folder where you compressed the files. Or did you compress the entire hard drive? If you did compress the entire hard drive you can go to My Computer, right click the hard drive that you compressed and go to properties, there simply uncheck "Compress drive to save disk space" (under General)

Ok none of the boxes are marked. Some of my compressed files are giving me problems. I made sure no more will be compressed by clearing the option from the registry. How do you get your files uncompressed from all directories?

I've tried the above information.
I've tried, Goto Start|Run and type "cmd" to open a command prompt
Type "cd \" at the prompt to goto the root directory
Type "compact /u /s /a /q /i *.*" to uncompress all files in all directories

The files are still compressed. I'm still getting problems.

People: I'm trying to convert my father from using COBOL to Python, :) One difficult thing we stuck into is how to read, from python, files written with COBOL. Do you know a module that allows me to do that? It should avoid us the work to write a COBOL program that open the COBOL

Hi, I'm not a programmer. I start working as text miner and as a first task I have given 1000 dirty files that needs to be cleaned before classification tasks. I have been told python is the best tool for this job. Each file's structure as below: Comments: This is article 1965 obtained from the website

I'm learning C++ after having spent several years in the computer industry doing both system administration and engineering. I've written code in Perl, Bash, Pascal, Ada, C, Mathematica (hundreds of lines of OO code, not 1+1), JavaScript, Lisp, and Java, as well as C++. Each of these languages has it's strengths and weaknesses. My experience with C++ has shown me that it is by far the most difficult for me to learn. I have the sense...

I started learning C++ a few days ago, and I've run into a couple questions regarding what is included in the executable when the source is compiled... I've written a simple, 1-D rocket predicting program that's under 2K prior to compiling, but about 540k after compiling. Does it include functions (or something else?) from the header/include files even if they aren't used in the actual program? Pasted below is the program. Thanks in...

I have a dynamic xml file that needs to be downloaded periodically to the client from an ASP.Net application. This file can be rather large, but it zips up very small. Does anyone know of a simple way that I can compress the file from my ASP.Net server code and then uncompress it from client jscript to read it? Maybe there is an IIS setting that automatically compresses data. Any suggestions?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
