How do I need to configure my IP Address on a New Domain Controller?

Hey,

I am running Server 2008 Datacenter R2.
I need help with configuring IP Addresses on my new domain.

On my Server, what does my IP Address need to be?
EX:
IP Address: 127.0.0.1
Subnet: Default 255.255.255.0
Gateway: modem address??? 192.168.0.1
DNS: 127.0.0.1?

Does the DNS need to match my Ip Address? Do I need a gateway, am I setting that up correctly? I need help obviously.

Why are you configuring it manually? Just let it do the setup automatically.

Well then the IP needs to be an available address in the subnet that the router is on.

The gateway IP will be the IP of the router.

The DNS IP will be the IP of the DNS server on your network.

Just let it run automatically and copy down those numbers and then set it to manual and put in the same numbers.

I'll try the automatic again. When setting up I don't remember it giving me the numbers anytime during the install.

Install what? The domain controller? It wouldn't give you those numbers during the installation of the domain controller.

That stuff is done by the OS itself, not the domain controller software.

What numbers am I supposed to copy down? Also, can I do this without having a Static IP?

You're supposed to copy down the numbers that you said you wanted above.

The whole point of copying it down is so that you can get the numbers you need to set up the static IP information. So by necessity, you must do it without setting it up as a static IP.

I have observed that a temporary loss of a domain controller can cause problems creating new ado connections between a client machine running ado and a separate sql server machine that are members of the domain. I understand why this happens when creating connections with windows authentication. What is a mystery is that it also sometimes effects new connections that use "sql authentication". Below is a description of my test scenario. ...

How do I set up access to a file on a Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller that also has IIS? The file sits on another server. The Domain Controller / IIS server connects to this file through a share. Domain controllers have no local users so ASPNET user is not available. Microsoft states, "On Windows 2003 domain controller servers, ASP.NET applications run under the NETWORK SERVICE identity (regardless of the IIS isolation mode)....

Hi everyone, I'm currently developing an intranet application for a company and I have an informative question about the webserver. Before users can access a certain webpage they must identify them by entering their network credentials (logonid & password from AD) which are then checked against Active Directory. If ok they are logged on. For this to work is it enough to just join the webserver (Win2k3 IIS6) to the domain or must the...

We have a web server that is hosting several ASP.Net-based websites (intranet). The server was promoted as a backup domain controller. After doing this, the websites are not working anymore. >From IIS, I configured the access level to Domain\IUSR_mymachine. When I try to browse, I get this error: Access to the path "C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\Temporary ASP.NET Files\app\df0d1c90\2eb457a7" is denied.

I have developed an ASP.NET 2.0 application using localhost on my Windows XP workstation, and it all works fine there. I tried to copy it to my test web server, which is a domain controller running Windows 2000 Server SP4. I can't get it to work on the server. For testing, I created a simple aspx page with nothing on it except for a label. Even that simple page won't work on the server. This error message appears in the browser when I...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
