Textbox Data Movement

HELLO AND THANKS IN ADVANCE

I am new to programming although my best mate is quite good and i have learnt a lot from him but i am now trying to understand the basic concept, however i cannot find anywhere yet that describes in laymens terms the process for building a programme, i am fine with layouts and such like but it is the basic starting procedure that i need to understand fully, has anyone got a flow chart or similar that shows the aspects like you cannot do this before that scenario etc,
in addition i could do with some help on textbox data movement, this is what i need to happen;-
populate text1 with six figure reference numbers say 4 for now, then highlighting the first number then move it to text2 and attach a timer that will count down from a designated time the time it is in that text box and once the timer reaches 00:00 then move the number to the next text box attach a timer with possibly a different time and start to countdown again, again when it reaches 00:00 it is then moved to another textbox say text3 and the process continues, there could be more that 1 6 diget reference number in the text boxes at any one time
can anyone help??
