Problem with Data Control

I'm having trouble attaching an already opened database to a data
control.

The context here is I'm trying to populate a data combo with a read only
snapshot from the DB.

However, when I try to assign the Database property, the code won't
compile with "Invalid Use of Property."

The help for the data control seems to indicate that a database object
is a valid assignment for this property, so I'm not certain what the
problem may be.

The tables exist and the database is open. It's easy to see that with
any of the data browser demo examples.

The database is Jet 3.51. I'm running VB6 Enterprise SP5

The code that's failing:

Private Sub Form_Load()

Set datSupervisors.Database = getLocalDB()

datSupervisors.RecordSource = "SELECT UserId, realName FROM myTable"

datSupervisors.Refresh

End Sub

It issues a compiler error, flagging the "Set datSupervisors.Database"
with "Invalid Use of Property." Is there some configuration I'm
missing? Thanks.
