How do I reference a control, not its default property

1 New Member
I'm trying to build a collection of a few controls (a subset of controls from a report in Access) for later use in a foreach statement

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. Dim ControlList1 As New Collection ' to hold controls for formating
  2. ControlList1.Add (tbRevision) ' does not work
  3. ControlList1.Add (Me.Controls("tbChecklist"))  ' does not work either
  4.
The collection gets the value of the default property for the control (a string), instead of the control itself.

So, how do I reference a control, not its default property?

In Visual Basic 6.0 you can do something like...
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. Option Explicit
  2.
  3. Dim O(1 To 2) As Object
  4.
  5. Private Sub Form_Load()
  6. Set O(1) = Command1
  7. Set O(2) = Text1
  8. End Sub
  9.
  10. Private Sub Command1_Click()
  11. O(1).Caption = "Click"
  12. O(2).Text = "Changed"
  13. End Sub
  14.
That is just one way but I hope it helps you figure out your quandry.

Good Luck

Hi,

You have to declare the control and use "SET"

Dim Ctl As Control
Set Ctl = Me.Controls("Te xtBox1")

I'm using Stephen Lebans' RTF2 control in a report, and have discovered what may be a slight bug in it. I have a lot of non-Western language (Chinese) text in my RTF field, and such records get sized strangely using the .RTFHeight property of the control. Specifically, lines of text get cut off the bottom of the control when I use the code provided in the sample report on the lebans.com site. It seems that when there is Chinese text,...

Just spent a happy 10 mins trying to understand a function I wrote sometime ago. Then remembered that arguments are passed by reference, by default. Does the fact that this slowed me down indicate: a) That I don't know enough b) Passing arguments by ref is bad

Hi, been a while since I posted a question myself instead of trying to help others out. I'm refactoring an existing web app that uses dynamic loading of user controls and a lot of response.redirects to the same page. Because I hate the overhead by doing this I'm searching for a cleaner option. But I'm having troubles (off course or I wouldn't be posting this).

I'm new at developing user controls in C#, and one thing I've noticed right off the bat is that the constructor gets called twice -- once at design time, once at run time. In short, I'm trying to develop a control derived from DataGridView. It will have a default set of columns (but I don't want to create them via the Properties window for various reasons) so I added a call to a method AddColumns() in the constructor. But the columns end...

Hello i have made a custom control. i have placed a panel on it. I want this panel to behave just like the normal panel. The problem i was having is that the panel on my custom control doesnt accept other controls. The control i drag drop on it becomes the child of my custom control's parent form and not the child of my custom control. Then i added this line "" before my custom control class (i dont know what this line does). Now

I don't know if the following is what you are looking for, but to me what you described was using a control array. If you were using vb6 that would be easy, the following articles hopefully explain using control arrays in .net Hope they help? http://visualbasic.about.com/od/usingvbnet/l/bldykctrlarraya.htm ...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
