I think that what you're after is information on registering a file type in Windows. Try the search box up top, as I think this has been covered before. Also try Google - using the right search terms will let you zero in much quicker on an answer.

Well, as I mentioned, each file type is registered and associated with a program. You will need to register your program with Windows as the application which handles that file type.

I don't know how to do that, though. Perhaps someone else here does?

Hi, Does anyone know how I would be able to drag a single file onto my applications icon and have it run some predefined code. What I want is to drop an .mp3 file onto my applications icon (not the apps form) and perform the necessary actions then give a confirmation when these actions are done then quit.

Apologies in advance for the long post - I wanted to be sure I included all the relevant details. The answer is probably very, very simple. I am doing something stupid here, but I don't know what it is. I'm writing an application with a Tkinter GUI (Python 2.4, Tcl/Tk 8.4.) and I want to put a custom icon on the main window. I've followed (so far as I understand it) the recipe in the eff-bot's splendid Introduction to Tkinter - see:...

I've been googling for a couple of hours now and tried some different things, but I've been unable to get the icon for a distributed access application to do anything but display the default microsoft access icon. I've included the icon with the distribution and specified it as the application in the icon in the wizard, but no love from Access. Any help with this will me much appreciated. Thanks, Sam90

I have an application with a document management form. When users add documents to the form, I call the API function SHGetFileInfo to get the associated large and small icons for the file. These icons are added to two ImageList objects which are bound to a ListView control, and everything looks great. I am saving the icons to a SQL Server table by using Icon.Save to a stream and assigning the byte array to the field, then loading them...

I wrote some code that is supposed to enumerate through the specified file's win32 resources and return a string-array of all icon names. When it runs, it returns a string-array with a bunch of numbers in sequential order (1-55 when ran against iexplore.exe). When I open up iexplore.exe in Visual Studio, I see 23 icons. Each icon has 1 or more sizes of the icon...I'm assuming that there are, in fact, 55 icon resources in iexplore.exe,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
