Some classes, like Queue and SortedList, have a Synchronized method which gives a thread safe wrapper object for these classes. But the lock() statement does the same thing. Is there any rules as to when to use one and not the other? For instance, if I wanted to remove an item in a SortedList, would it be better to lock() it or do it via the Synchronized wrapper? Why choose one over the other
SortedList sl

Sorry for repost - system added to another subject for some reason
Have tried numerous ideas from the group to solve this one. It is such
a simple example that it should be straightforward ! I just want to
add a new item to a combo that has data from a file, by typing in the
new value , adding to the file and the requerying to get the new valus
in the list. i.e. a data entry and data display combo box.
I select an item from cmb1 and...

I have a combo box where users select the customer name and can either
go to the customer's info or open a list of the customer's orders.
The RowSource for the combo box was a simple pass-through query:
SELECT DISTINCT , , ,City,
Region FROM Customers ORDER BY Customers.;
This was working fine until a couple of weeks ago. Now whenever
someone has the form open, this statement locks the entire Customers
table.

Hi all,
Could you tell me the best way to add a blank item(as first item) in a data
binded combo box? Because I think I didn't do it right and it generate an
error if the second item(after the top blank item) is selected by using
Combo.SelectedValue :
"Specified argument was out of the range of valid values.
Parameter name: '-2147483648' is not a valid value for 'index'.

I have a control that is derived from the standard ComboBox. I want to
lock or suppress the DropDown when the arrow button is clicked without
disabling the control.
This is related to another post that I have out there for a custom
OnPaint event. I want to provide custom colors for ComboBox that work
even when the Enabled is set to false (by default it is set to Gray).
I have provided a new implementation for the Enabled property to...

Greetings,
I have an Access 2002 continuous form called "Project Update Form" in which users can update project values presented in a series of combo boxes and text boxes.
Three of the combo boxes ("FY", "Qtr" and "Mth") contain the values for a project's deadline: fiscal year, quarter and month, respectively, and are enclosed in an option group such that when the values for any of these three combo boxes are changed, an automatic change...

I have an arraylist used in three separate methods.
In method #1 (event method), some items are removed from the arraylist
if certain conditions are met;
In method #2 (event method), properties of some items are modified if
certain conditions are met;
In method #3, it loops through each item in the arraylist without

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
