Hi,
In VB6 Pro SP5, I have a form that contains an MSFlexGrid and a few
other textboxes and comboboxes. I am using the technique from MSDN
article Q241355, which describes how to tab and edit in a flexgrid.
Briefly, the technique is to overlay the cell to be edited with
"floating" textbox; data is edited in the floating textbox and moved
to the cell when the floating textbox loses focus.
The technique works well except for when the...

I searched the FAQ for this NG and found no answers to my question...
I'm writing an application in Java (I'm not a C programmer), however I
need to be able to detect WHICH drive (d:\, e:\ etc...) on a win2k
machine the CDROM drive is on. I assume that C or C++ can do this. The
C/C++ code will then be wrapped in a JNI layer to be used by the java
code.
Basically, all I want the C code to do is return a letter
corresponding to the...

Hello
I am trying to capture CDRom insertion and removal messages in a windows service. (No I am not running with the interactive desktop). I have written a C# app using the NativeWindow trick to successfully capture the messages in a Windows Forms app, but this technique does not seem to work in a service. Should it? If not, any ideas on how to approach this
TIA

I am writing a C# app that needs to periodically poll for cdroms and usb
storage device insertions. I've looked at the WMI functions but haven't
found anything all that useful. The closest is Win32_DiskDrive, but it
doesn't seem to return any information on cdrom devices. I suspect there
might be a Win32 API call, but I haven't found any info yet using Google. Is
there a way to achieve this in C#?

I have a Windows XP system with a USB hub attached to it. The hub has a USB cdrom and a few USB storage devices plugged in. Occasionally the cdrom and/or the storage devices disappeared or failed to operate. Restarting the system or re-plugging the USB hub always fixed the problem.
I am using devcon.exe to detect the presence (or missing) of the devices by issuing the following command: "devcon.exe hwids *usbstor*". Sometimes the above...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
