I changed from Access97 to AccessXP and I have immense performance
problems.
Details:
- Access XP MDB with Jet 4.0 ( no ADP-Project )
- Linked Tables to SQL-Server 2000 over ODBC
I used the SQL Profile to watch the T-SQL-Command which Access ( who
creates the commands?) creates and noticed:

One of my clients has the following situation. They use Access DB for
data update etc. some business functions while they also want to view
the Access data quickly and more efficiently in SQL Server 2000. Huge
Access db with over 100 user tables, over 60 MB data.
The DTS package that comes with SQL Server 2000 seems pretty "messy"
in the sense that it assumes that one needs to do one time import only
or accurately it does not...

Today I need to copy 8 records in a table. I have to use Access 200 because
of the limitation of Enterprise Manager's inability to cope with field with
more than 900 characters. Selected records, cut, paste. I got an erroor
message about not being able to have a null Key_ID (I copied the reords and
tried to paste the Key_ID as part of the records - normally I hide the
Key_ID).
Now I can't access either the new records or the originals...

I've only recently started a project using sql server 2000 for the
first time. One of the considerations we have to take is that we need
to continuously age/purge data from a couple of large tables (100
million rows+) - to keep the tablesize growth to a minimum. Coming
from an Oracle background, I've used partitions to help manage this
before.
