Problem selecting from database using partial string

1 New Member
Hi All;

My problem is getting information from an Access database using a partial string in VB6.

The database consists of tables of information on motor vehicles including a 17 character VIN number.

To make life easier I wish to select data from the table using the last eight (rightmost) characters of the string. I have used the following select satement.

SELECT table.[year],table.[make],table.[model] .......etc from table WHERE table.[Right(vin,8)] = """& txtbox & """

When I run this the program comes to a grinding halt without an error message.

If I run the program using a full VIN number (without the right(s,8)) it runs without a hitch.

Anybody got an idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks

Hi All;

SELECT table.[year],table.[make],table.[model] .......etc from table WHERE table.[Right(vin,8)] = """& txtbox & """

try this:

SELECT table.[year],table.[make],table.[model] .......etc from table WHERE table.vin like "*" & txtbox.text

I hope someone will tell me how to do this without having to do any VB as I know nothing in that area. I am a rank beginner in using Access. I have created a database consisting of student athletes.  I have now learned how to join two different tables in a query so that I might generate a report. Specifically, student athletes at a community college are required to graduate with an AA or AS degree.  Consequently, various steps are in...

Hi, I've been trying to use a Sub or Function in VBA to connect to a database, make a query and return the recordset that results from the query. The connection to the database and the query works fine, but passing the resulting recordset back to the sub's caller is not working out.

Hi all, I have a major problem with my ASP.NET website and it's SQL Server 2005 Express database, and I'm wondering if anyone could help me out with it. This site is on a webhost (WebHost4Life) and was running fine and dandy, until I decided I needed to add some additional stored procedures to the database.

Hello, On a webpage, create an UpdatePanel with two DropDownLists. Set AutoPostBack of DropDownList1 to true. In the SelectedIndexChanged method, refill DropDownList2 and set the focus to DropDownList1 using the ScriptManager SetFocus method. Use the Visual Studio debugger. Set a breakpoint on in the (!IsPostBack) part of the PageLoad method. Start the web application and continue after the breakpoint has been reached.

Hi guys - I have written a form, and a stored procedure to update the said form. It really is as simple as that. A user can go into the form, update some fields and hit the update button to update the information which is stored in a SQL database. In testing we noticed that the form was updating correctly but the update mechanism was also updating the first record of the table in the sql database every time. No error messages are on...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
