Sorry for being such a newbie in this respect, but here's my question:
I have Visual Studio, with VB6 ent., with msdn help installed. Is
there any way to downgrade to just using the VB5 help, on the VB6 app?
I too am not on board with "more help than you ever imagined, or
wanted" approach, and don't like msdn. I read dozens of postings last
night, with so many people remarking the msdn help format is too
distracting and unhelpful. I really like the old quick
at-your-fingertips brief help, and quick loading format.
I may have the VB5 disks (must check); or is it possible to download
the files from MS (not supported, assume are free!). Is that
assumption correct, can anyone supply a link, and are there
instructions I can follow to "fool" VB6 into using them? And last but
not least: will it cover almost all the needed VB6 topics?
Thanks, Matt

I have a quicky tip on using MSDN... first of all, use the search feature as
a last resort <g>.. There may be a way to run VB5 books online (or whatever
it's called) as an addin in VB6 but the context sensitive links will surely
be different. You'll end up searching instead of getting direct help.
Searching VB5 help is much more pleasant than MSDN... anyway, I haven't seen
a link to download any Microsoft help files related to any version of VB
(besides script) that are "free to the public"... if you have an MSDN
subscription, you can get the help files.
Anyway, here's that quicky tip.

Yep, almost all.
But I know of no way to patch together any of the context-sensitive stuff.
I kept VB5 installed on my older system, including the start menu shortcut
right to VB5.hlp, and frequently just fired it up and use it.
Eventually I got mostly used to the newer stuff, but on some of my newer
systems I've brought a copy of the older help file anyway. I don't recall
anything you really need other than that hlp file; I think there isn't any.

After following Microsofts admonition to reformat my system before doing a
final compilation of my app I got many warnings/errors upon compiling an rtf
file created in word. I used the Help Workshop program: hcw.exe that's
included with Visual Basic. This exact same file compiled perfectly with no
notes, warnings or errors prior to reformatting my system. Prior to the
reformatting, I copied the help.rtf file onto a CD and checked the box to...

Is there a way to get help the way you get it from the Python
interpreter (eg, 'help(dir)' gives help on the 'dir' command) in the
module cmd.Cmd? I know how to add commands and help text to cmd.Cmd
but I would also like to get the man-page-like help for classes and
functions. Does anyone know how to do that? Thanks.

I recently started using Access 2003 for the first time. I wanted to
pass on some comments about the Help system to Access MVPs who frequent
this board. I'm doing this in the hope that some of what I say may be
passed on to Microsoft.
Microsoft has implemented a combination local and web based help system
in Access 2003. The local Help installed on your hard drive is fast, but
the content is abbreviated. For really useful help you have...

I've managed to get a nice little chm help system written. Now I need
to display it!
I added a HelpProvider to my MDIParent form and set the namespace of
the HelpProvider to be the help file. So far so good - when I press F1,
I get HTML Help popping up with my Help file.
This is good but I've been requested to make Help pop up when the user
clicks on "Help" in the menu, or on a specific Help Button. I'm trying
to trigger the HelpRequested...

Hi
I have an app that i have written a chm help file for.
What is the best way to associate that with my help menu and the F1 key.
I have added the file to the project already, just not sure of the best way
to call it. I have tried
private void helpaHelpToolStripMenuItem_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)

I am working on .NET Version 2003 making an SDI application that calls MS Excel 2003.
I added a menu item called "MyApp Help" in the end of the menu bar to show Help-> About.
The application calls MS Excel, so the scenario is that I am supposed to see the Excel Menu bar,
FILE EDIT VIEW INSERT ... HELP.
I am able to see the menu bar, but in case of Help, I see the Help of Excel and help of my application, both as a submenu of help.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
