get an object from a hWnd

I have an application that creates (Createobject) an
'Internetexplor er.application" window, and then monitors clicks until a
link is clicked that corresponds to a specific pattern. Running this App
always creates a new instance of internet explorer.

I can also use GetObject to get an object corresponding to a running
internet explorer app. However, I don't know how to know which instance of
the explorer I am monitoring if more than one were open.

What would be the best approach to make sure that I can capture the events
of the internet explorer instance that the user is actually working with ?

I was thinking that I'd have to find the topmost window, and in some way
extract the "internet.appli cation" COM object that corresponds to that
hWnd. I however have no idea if such a thing is possible.

Any ideas or even code for an approach to monitor clicks on _any_ instance
of internet explorer ?

Has anyone come across this exception before when dealing with C# graphics? Have come across some answers that point to the accelleration control under the screen's properties/settings/advanced/troubleshooting. ie the graphics driver. Other answers include disposing, revalidate. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The code works properly but I get the following compiler warning: warning C4312: 'reinterpret_cast' : conversion from 'int' to 'HWND' of greater size.

Is PostQuitMessage(?) different to PostMessage(hWnd, WM_QUIT, ... ) ? I've got a window in a DLL (the same one experiencing the issue below, "return value of WM_QUIT") in which PostMessage(hWnd, WM_QUIT, ... ) works, but PostQuitMessage doesn't. I would assume this to be the case as PostQuitMessage can't possibly know the hWnd I'm wanting it to operate on. So why does the docs advise you to use that?

I have a ListView control, for which I have overwritten the WndProc method to gain access to the WM_PAINT message and generate my own OnPaint and OnPaintBackground messages, in order to colour the columns of the listview to my liking. When a row of the listview is selected, some controls are displayed on that row of the listview (so sort of like a property list thingy). In order to get the controls (specifically buttons) to display how I...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
