Get/Set details in the extended XP directory?

Can somebody point me to some code that shows how to get and set one of
the extended XP directory details? For example, there's a detail
called "Program Description" (or pick a different one - Album Title,
Artist, Episode Name, etc) How would you read the Program Description
for a file and then modify it?

Is there a fixed structure which encompases all the directory
attributes which will allow the above to be generalized to all the
details?
