User Control Painting Oddly

I have a user control which consists of a couple of text boxes. Under
certain conditions, I set the right-hand text box visible to False, and
increase the width of the left hand text box to be the width of the
usercontrol.

If I am looking at a form (in run mode, not design) with one of these
controls on it, and move something (like notepad) over it and them away, I
see artifacts around the user control, stray graphics, lines, etc. from the
Notepad.

What is causing this, and how do I get rid of it?

Thanks,
---Selden
