I'm working with VS.NET 2003 and .NET 1.1 (not SP1) on Windows XP SP1. My application is using the Windows Installer Bootstrap. (I may have also installed a module which detects requirements (.NET 1.1 -> MsiNetAssembly Support.) I have a few issues and questions regarding the MSI and its properties. * This may be my biggest annoyance at the moment. When the installer creates the target directory, it's setting them as read-only. When the...

I have a bunch of .dll "drivers" that are built to a common directory. Is there a way to add all of the files in that directory to a setup project's file system. Basically I would like to be able to add new "drivers" without modifying the setup file. Are there Post Build Event variables for the setup project's "Application folder"? Thanks for any help -Sam

Hi All, I've created in my Setup deployment project under "User Interfaces" a new Checkboxes (A) dialog screen. The users have to pick between two possible projects to install. It works great but I want to make sure the user checks at least ONE of the checkboxes otherwise the installation is cancelled or an uninstall is done. Any ideas?

Hey all, I have a setup / deployment project that is used to create builds for my web project. I can very easily invoke this manually, in the IDE, to get the packaged MSI file. However, I would like to be able to invoke the packaging of this MSI file from the command line, so that I can embed it in a script. Anyone know what this command line statement would be?

I have set the File Types properties in my Deployment project in Visual Studio .NET 2003. It works correctly, almost. When I right click on the file type, it offers my application as the default 'OPEN'. But if the user clicks on 'Open With..' my application is first, but has no name in the list. I see my icon, but not the application name. Has anyone else encountered this? Thanks, Mark

I want to deploy a service with a windows app and the setup program must conform to the Vista certification requirements. Can that be done with the standard .net setup project? Assuming cost is an issue, what else is available?

If any of you have an idea how to read/execute word file from c++ project, please let me know. Or if you can recommend some tools/functions that can read the word file, it would also be helpful. Thanks much in advance.

I have a simple vb.net application that I have created a setup project for.The application is a single exe and uses an app.config filem My question is, how do I go about upgrading the application whenever I make any updates to my code? Within the setup project, I see I can set the installer to automatically remove the old version, but I don't really want to do that since it may overlay my custom settings in my app.config. I really want...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
