Installation failure of VS2008 SP1 on Vista 64bit Business

Hi everybody,

There is a fatal error while installing VS2008 SP1 on Vista 64bit Business
edition. The last line of error log is

Installation failed with error code: (0x80070643)

I tried to uninstall Silverlight first (which is described in some blogs)
and install .NET framework 3.5 SP1 manually but still failed. My VS2008 is
Team Suit for developer and Vista SP1 is also installed.

Does anyone have any idea on my issue? Thanks for kindly attention advice!

James,

Try running the VS 2008 sp1 preparation tool before you try to
install sp1 again. There are some VS 2008 updates that need to be removed
before VS 2008 sp 1 can install this tool will remove them. You will need to
your VS 2008 disk while running this tool.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for your reply!

I've executed the VS2008 SP Preparation Tools and it reports the following
result:

CleanupBlock (UnAdvertiseFea tures) succeeded on product (Microsoft Windows
SDK for Visual Studio 2008 Tools)
CleanupBlock (UnAdvertiseFea tures) succeeded on product (Visual Studio Tools
for the Office system 3.0 Runtime)
Final Result: Installation completed successfully.

However, when I rerun the VS2008 SP1, the same problem still exists. Here
is the failure message from log file:

Exe (C:\Users\JAMES W~1\AppData\Loc al\Temp\Microso ft Visual Studio 2008
SP1\dotnetfx35l angpack_x64zh-CHT.exe) failed with 0x80070643

Please noted that I'm using Vista 64bit Business Traditional Chinese Edition
with SP1. The VS2008 SP1 is also Traditional Chinese Edition. Both VS2008,
VS2008 SP1 are downloaded from MSDN download website. I've also installed
Framework 3.5 SP1 manually before VS2008 SP1.

Thanks again for your kindly attention!

I've heard rumblings here and there that various versions of Visual Studio will not run on Vista. I can't find definitive explanation anywhere of which one will run and which one won't. I am mostly interested in vs2003 and vs2005. Is it mostly an issue of UAC or not running as an admin? Regards

Dear all, I installed Vista SP1 on my Vista x64 Enterprise machine. Now my Visual Basic 2005 (.Net 2) does not behave correctly. It appears that 'for loops' have a problem of some sort. For example, I have a 'for loop' to fill a dropdown control with numbers from x to z. Now that dropdown stays empty. This behavior did not happen before...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows.
