Hello,
I have come back to C++ after a couple of years with Java so I am quite
rusty and this question may seem poor:
My platform is Windows XP with MSVC 7.1.
I have a class with a templatized conversion operator defined as
follows:

Can anybody please explain this:
When a value with integer type is converted to another integer type
other than _Bool,
if the new type is unsigned, the value is converted by repeatedly
adding or subtracting one more than the maximum value that can be
represented in the new type until the value is in the range of the new
type.

I've read several documents about upcoming C# generics and I still cannot
understand one thing.
Would it be valid to write a code like this:
class SomeClass
{
public void AMethod<T>(T a, T b)
{
T c = a + b; // ?

Would it be wrong to use "implicit casting" instead of the standards
"implicit conversion" when talking about implicit conversions between
certain data types. The standard mentions "explicit conversion" for a
cast operation

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but not a dummy either.
I'm looking for a good book which goes over Generics in great detail.
and to have as a reference book on my shelf.

I am surprised to discover that c# automatically converts an integer to a
string when concatenating with the "+" operator. I thought c# was supposed
to be very strict about types. Doesn't it seem like c# is breaking its own
rules?
This works:
int b = 32;
string a = "ABC " + b;
Result: a = "ABC 32"

Hi,
I've been playing with generics and I was wondering if anyone could
tell me why the following doesnt work, and if there is another way to
do it
public class A<Twhere T : B, new() {
public B Get() {
B b = new B();
b.X = this;

Hi all,
I'm having trouble with a project that I've distilled down to the following
code. Unfortunately it won't compile and gives the following
error (caused by the call to GetHorses() in HorseFarm's GetAnimals() method):
Cannot implicitly convert type 'MyCollection<Horse>' to
'MyCollection<IAnimal>'

Apparently the Java Conversion tool that used to be in Visual Studio 2005 is
no longer supported in Visual Studio 2008. Anyone have any suggestions on how
to convert a Java program to C# in Visual Studio 2008?

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
