How do I detect application idle time?

Dear All,

Can you please help me out in detecting the application idle time.

I would like to lock the application if it is idle for more that 10 minutes.

FYI - I have already tried application.idl e event.

Thanks and Regards,

Peri

How are you determining "idle" time?

Thanks,

What do you guys think about resetting a timer each time a key is
pressed or mouse is moved ( low priority thread) ?
On timer tick at 10 minutes just lock the application.

Thanks,
Naren.

Call the function every n seconds. The time is related to all applications,
not only to your application.

The link below: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;128814 to the Microsoft KB "Detect Idle Time" article shows how to detect "idle" time. However, if a user is active but doesn't move between controls on a form (eg, filters on the same control), this is seen as inactivity. Has anyone successfully modified the code to detect filter/find events on the same control? Any pointers greatly appreciated.

I am using Access 2002. I downloaded the forms sample database FrmSmp97.mdb from Microsoft and used the following code in the timer event of a hidden form in order to close a database if no activity was detected. I have it set for one minute for testing purposes only. However, my problem with this code is when the message box pops up and says "No user activity detected...", you have to actually click the OK button before the database...

I want to log the user out when there has been a period of inactivity in the application. The key here is inactivity of the application, not the system. I know that you can retrieve the inactivity of the system via GetLastInputInfo. That's not what I want - I want inactivity of the application. Thanks.

Hi, I have recently used the Microsoft that will detect idle time coding on my Access database and it works fine as long as you do not add any data or move from one form to another. As soon as you do that, when idling code kicks, an error message from Microsoft "Microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to close" comes up. Do you have any idea how that can be fixed? Thank you in advance.

I have a routine which checks idle time and opens a pop up screen to advise users before shutting them down. The pop up has an option for the user to keep the application open, in which case the timer is reset for another period. The problem occurs if the user is working on another application at the time the pop up is activated, in which case it cannot be seen. Is there any way to shift the focus back to my access app so that they can...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
