Shared Variable used as SyncLock

Hello,

I am having a class that is used to spawn new threads off. In each of
them, I have a shared function that will generate an unique id off a
shared class variable. My question is whether using a shared object as a
synclock candidate will generate any race conditions. Thanks.

Core

Public class ThreadChilds
Private Shared syncLockObject As Object = New Object
Private Shared GlobalRequestBa se As Integer

Private Shared Function GenerateNewRequ estId() As Integer
Dim returnId As Integer = -1
SyncLock syncLockObject
If ThreadChilds.Gl obalRequestBase >= 10000 Then
ThreadChilds.Gl obalRequestBase = 0
Else
ThreadChilds.Gl obalRequestBase =
ThreadChilds.Gl obalRequestBase + 1
End If

returnId = ThreadChilds.Gl obalRequestBase
End SyncLock

Return returnId
End Function
End Class

No, not that in itself.

Hello, I'm using the ms data access application blocks. My question is about the fact that everywhere shared methods are used. Does this mean that when more than 1 user at the same time executes the same function they can interfere with one another as these functions are the same for all instances of the class (and thus internal variables

Hi. Just trying to find out the best approach as I beleive it might give me problems later on down the road. I have an ASP.NET application which references a shared database class which contains methods for serialising and de-serialising objects to the database storage. I put this as a shared class as multiple web clients will be using the class to store and retreive data, the problem I'm haivng now is that I think multiple threads...

1) Do Shared methods always need to be synchronised to be thread-safe? 2) Why must SyncLock be used with a reference type? I can't get the relation between threads and a type. Thanks for your help. Henri

Hi, I'm using a custom class in my ASP.NET which has a Shared property. I don't want this Shared property to be shared between users because of thread concurrent accesses problems. I just want it to be shared between the several instances of the class belonging to the same request/user. I think I've read somewhere that shared properties are not shared among users in ASP.NET. (that would be logic as a shared property should die after each...

VS 2003, vb.net , sql msde... I have an application with multiple threads running. Its a telephony application where each thread represents a telephone line. For code that would be the same for each thread, I put in Shared methods as below. It is only now that I am realizing the complexity of multiple threads accessing shared methods. And, quite honestly, I am very confused. I have tried System.Threading.Monitor.Enter, Synclock,...

Ok, I have done a lot of reading(of the newsgroup answers, help files and MSDN articles) of synclock. I understand what you are saying in the newsgroup, and it is very helpful. It does, however, directly contradict what the VS 2003 help file says, and it seems that various posters to my original questions on Synclock disagree with each other. It seems, that the best practice is to use sysnlock to protect code, not variables. That...

I have been looking all over and have seen many possible ways to create a Syncronized Shared Function in VB.NET, but I would like some advice that will make my life easier. Given the following code how do I ensure that the two methods are thread safe? Public Class Class1 Public Shared Function addMe(ByVal i1 As Integer, ByVal i2 As Integer) As Integer Return i1 + i2 End Function

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
