Hi,
I am developing some software in C++ to access a PMC card in a PC. The PMC
card comes with a set of C++ libs to access it and to handle interrupts from
it. I am therefore writing entirely in C++ at the application level and have
no access to the device driver for the PMC.
My design involves:
- a single process running on the host machine to handle all DMAs from the
PMC to the host.

I can't figure this out, Please Help!!!! I would appreciate any remarks
or opinions or help about the code below.
A you can see I am writing and reading from the serial port, that is
going OK MOST of the time. My big problem is when I want to break the
while loop. I am expecting a message in HEX to come in from the serial
port. for instance "0004 600A", which I get most of the time, sometimes
I just get random ASCII chars, anyway to the...

Hi
For my application server, I had to overcome some limitations in older
COM-database drivers, whers sessions per driver instance are limited.
Instantiating the COM component several times does not help, since it still
reports the same Process ID to the DB server, so the limit persists.
When launching several external components (EXEs), each loading its own
database driver, the limitation problem is solved. I built this using .Net...

Hi,
I've been trying for some time to establish reliable serial comms for
a 4-port system, i.e. with the two regular COM1 and COM2 on the
motherboard and with a dual PCI serial card (COM3 and COM4). The
serial class I have works fine with COMs 1 and 2, but I can only read
from COMs 3 and 4, not write. Other applications seem to work fine
with all the ports, so it's not a hardware issue. Is there something
special I need to do when...

Hi,
Im a little confused with sending and receiving data
using UDP comms.
Im writing an app that sends and recieves data (a byte
array) using the UDP protocol. The data I send is 36
bytes long (confirmed when I display "data.length -1").
But when I receive the data on the other end and
do "Data.length - 1" It displays 35 (1 size smaller than

I have a frustrating problem where WaitOne does not return when I expect.
I am using an AutoResetEvent with an overlapped structure in a call to
WaitCommEvent. The data I am expecting on the serial port is 23 bytes long,
and is sent in response to a command.
I begin timing before sending the command, and display split times when
received data is signalled. The entire exchange of command and response is
over within 6 ms (I have checked...

I am using VC++ 6.0 (with SP5 installed). When using WinXP this is with SP2
installed.
I am developing an instrumentation system comprising a set of networked PCs
connected using TCP/IP TCP links. Communications on the Windows PCs use a
class derived from CAsyncSocket(). I have written client and server versions
of my software for use on the appropriate PCs.
I am also using communicating with a legacy DOS based system, with the

I am using C# and need to be able to open a comms port, send a command to a
device, receive the data back and close the port.
Also need to be able to set up the comms parameters Baud rate stop bits
parity etc.
Can anyone please advise or help me.

Hi all,
I've got an application that's written in C++ making use of MFC (VS6). Its purpose is to process SMS messages received from a GSM modem connected via a serial port (USB connection). The serial communications are handled entirely in their own thread.
For the most part this works perfectly. However, there appears to be a problem where multiple instances of the application are running in different Windows XP environments.
It seems...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
