My application takes 5 or 6 seconds to load because of the time required to
communicate with web services and load from the database. In the meantime
I'd like to show a splash screen in a seperate thread.
I am trying the following code and it shows the form for a split second and
then dissapears. Can someone help me out with what I'm doing wrong here.
Thanks,
Dan

Hi there movers & shakers,
The example below demonstrates a behaviour that is anoying the tits off of
me! It doesn't happen whilst debugging from the IDE only when you run the
compiled exe from windows explorer. I'm basically trying to display a splash
screen in a seperate thread which has it's own message pump. When the call
to Application.ExitThread() closes down the splash screen's thread, form and
message pump, the main form (and...

I tried a couple of weeks ago but I'll try again :D
I old VB6-days it was possible to unload a form bu using the Unload(Form)
command.
I have tried the Close-function but it'll unload the entire projekt.
The reason why I am asking is that I am creating a program and I need a
Splash-screen (like the tiny screen that appears when programs like Word
starts), and when the Splash-screen has been loaded for a couple of seconds
it should be...

Can anyone tell me why this code does not work?
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As
System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Me.Hide()
End Sub
If runs, but the form won't hide itself. This is the main form of the
application.

Something very basic I either never thought about, or (more likely) once
knew and by now have totally forgotten.
I have developed a Windows application in VB.NET, all based on a single
Form. I would now like to add a Splash Screen to the project, which
should be seen by the user whenever the project is launched, before the
main Form is displayed.
How do I do this?

Hi
I have created a splash form with no border. When I try to open this form in
my main form using DoCmd.OpenForm "Splash", , , , , acDialog, the splash
form opens with a form border. If I use DoCmd.OpenForm "Splash" then splash
form opens without a border as desired but then the main form starts to
appear before splash form has gone.
How can I get the splash form to open without a border?

Hi!
My Windows Forms VB 2005 application has Splash Screen form specified in
My Project/Application/Splash Screen. How can I close Splash Screen form
programmatically when Startup form (specified in same place) causes
error when it is loading and it cannot open database connection for
example?
Now error message will be below Splash Screen form, and it causes
problem how to read error message and close it.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
