I know Windows / SQL etc can utilise multiple processors. In the good old
days of coding, you simply wrote the .EXE and Windows would run it on a
single processor (or a given processor for multi-processor machines)
I know also that threads exist, but am having a few problems understanding
how they are split across processors so here is an easy example.
I have a VB.Net written application that is processor intensive. It has not
been...

We have got a brand new mutltiprocessor machine
IBM pseries server with 2 processors.
Now we want to buy a IBM DB2 license for this
box.
Does anyone know whether it is possible to
buy a single processor db2 license for this machine
and to configure the db2 software with db2licm just
to use one processor.

Hello,
I am a bit confused as to how this all works with respect to number of
processors on a Linux machine. The situation I am encountering is this :
because of Hyperthreading technology, the OS thinks it has four
processors, but in reality, it has only two. I have updated the db2licm
to use two processors, but want to be certain I did the right thing.
Would it be possible to "pretend" that the machine does indeed have four
processors...

I'm using the function clock() to measure the run time of a program so that
I can compare among several different algorithms. My code looks like:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <assert.h>
#include <time.h>
int main() {
clock_t start, stop;

I have a second thread in which I call t.abort() from the parent thread. I
see "t"s state as AbortRequested. It stays this way for some time. Under
which conditions will a thread remain this way?
The sub procedure that "t" calls is an inifite loop with code inside. Near
the end of each interation, this sub() will call currentthread.sleep(x).
That works fine. I imagine the parent thread can't abort the child thread,
"t", until the...

This is my first attempt at multi-thread programming, and I'm encountering a
program-logic problem that I can't quite put my finger on.
The program is pretty simple. I'm trying to validate a large list of email
addresses. Since the actual validation can take some time, I'm spawning new
threads, up to a predetermined maximum value, to process each new address.

Hi. I'm writing a Client/Multi-threaded Server program on Windows
Vista. It worked fine on Windows Vista, but when the server ran on
Windows XP,
I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an
application request
exception randomly occurred at the OnReceive method (asynchronous tcp
stream reading). I searched all over the internet and found a post
posted few years ago. He had the same problem as me, and he said it

Hi
I'm writing a threading class using posix threads on unix with each
thread being run by an object instance. One thing I'm not sure about
is , if I do the following:
myclass::~myclass()

Thanks Chris,
Looks nice but I miss the dual way communication. In the main thread to
deliver paramters and data to the worker thread- how can I do that?
Regards
Ronny
Take a look at the background worker thread component. It has what
you want built into it.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
