Converting API return values to Return Codes?

I need to use a few WIN API functions and get Return values as Long and
Integers from those.. how do I convert these to the error codes so I get to
know what error I really got?

Example from MSDN site:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...ternetdial.asp
Return Values
Returns ERROR_SUCCESS if successful, or an error value otherwise. The error
code can be one of the following values.
ERROR_INVALID_P ARAMETER, One or more of the parameters are incorrect.
ERROR_NO_CONNEC TION, There is a problem with the dial-up connection.
ERROR_USER_DISC ONNECTION, The user clicked either the Work Offline or
Cancel button on the Internet connection dialog box.

I get numbers as 797, 631 and 0 from this api. I have understood , from
trial and error, that 0 is success.. but how to I translate the other ones
to the real message?

best regards

I keep trying to get myself out of the return-code mindset, but it doesn't seem to work. They are suppose to get rid of if-then statements of return codes, but you still have to do an if statement once the code leaves your control (3rd party libraries, OS functions, etc) to throw an exception? Does anyone have any good suggestions on a book or website that deals with exception handling that could help turn this poor mind off of return...

Hi, We are having problem in converting a byte array to string, The byte array has char(174), char(175), char(240), char(242) and char(247) as delimiters for the message. when we use "System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetString(bytearray)" of .Net library, we found that the char (delimiters) specified above are replaced with different char.

I wrote the following code to concatenate every 2 keys of a dictionary and their corresponding values. e.g if i have tiDict1 = tiDict1 = {'a':,'b':} i should get tiDict2={'ab':} and similarly for dicts with larger no. of features. Now i want to check each pair to see if they are connected...element of this pair will be one from the first list and one from the second....e.g for 'ab' i want to check if 1 and 3 are connected, then 1 and...

I am struggling with converting a certain varchar column into an int. I have a table that has 2 fields - one field holds the loan number and the other field holds the codes associated with that loan number. Here's some example data: Loan# Codes 11111 24-13-1 22222 1 33333 2-9

Hi, I am writing unicode stings into a special text file that requires to have non-ascii characters as as octal-escaped UTF-8 codes. For example, the letter "Í" (latin capital I with acute, code point 205) would come out as "\303\215". I will also have to read back from the file later on and convert the escaped characters back into a unicode string.

I am trying to adopt a model for calling functions and checking their return values. I'm following Scott Meyer's recommendation of not over-using exceptions because of their potential overhead. Here's the approach I'm currently looking at. I throw exceptions only from constructors. Destructors, of course, do not throw exceptions. All other functions return a signed integer. The values are all stored in one large header file (as...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development projectplanning, coding, testing, and deploymentwithout human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
