Is Visual Studio 2005 Stable

I am A major VB6 coder and have never done any .NET stuff. I am about to make
the leap and think i will start with VB 2005 that comes in the VS 2005 Beta.
Have people found it stable enough to write apps in and stable enough that I
can code in it and not run into a lot of issues? I want to write window form
apps and web apps.

George,

It is called by Microsoft very unstable. I thought that there will be in
May/June a new Beta2 version.
(Although as well not a production version)

I hope this helps

From my experience, it's very unstable, especially the CTP bits, and thus is
not suitable for production use. The next beta version (Beta 2) will be
released in March (according to what Bill Gates said at the "Office System
Developer Conference" (<URL:http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/56082/>).

If on the other hand you just want to spend some time getting up to speed
with VB.NET, then take a look at downloading VB.NET Express. It's "quite"
stable (but is still a beta), is a smaller install and will give you all you
need to learn the language and the framework.

Hope that helps

I'm trying to clear space on a laptop. Currently have Visual Studio 6 + MSDN 98, AND VS2003 + recent MSDN. I had kept the older VS6 due to some legacy apps with odd code that had trouble compiling under VS2003 (a long story...I didn't write the code, and it has to link with the author's ActiveX modules). Anyway, I'm thinking that aside...

I have a 2 form project in VS2005 that now hangs whenever I try to do anything with the second form. I use Visual Studio 2005 for a C-project using an external compiler, and came up with the idea that error parsing would be neat, i.e. enabling the functionality available for a "normal" build where you can double click a compile error/warning message and be guided to the file/line in question. Using sed to filter output from the compiler i...

OK here the big problem... My organization is not yet ready to move to .NET 3.5 and even .NET 3.0 is still seen as something "not quite stable" (don't ask me why). For those reasons the project I am working on is still based on .NET 2.0 with Visual Studio 2005 so a migration to Visual Studio 2008 is very unlikely in the near future so I am...
